“Basic, but good.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 January 2013

This is one of the cheapest hotels/hostels I could find in Oslo, and it is quite a bargain considering its location. It's only a few minutes walk from the train station (Oslo S), and the whole city is easily accessible from the hotel either by foot or public transportation.

I stayed here for two nights in a four-bedded room. It was nice, big and clean. The bathroom (in the room) was also clean and pretty big. The bedding was included in the price, but to rent a towel costs 10 kr. Not very expensive, but I still think one towel should be free of charge.

The breakfast was included in the price. They had a few different types of bread, cereal and a good variety of spreads, cheese, ham etc. However, the presentation was not very appetizing. A few things looked dry and stale. I would have wished that they had served more fruit (they only had apples and oranges). I would not have payed extra for this breakfast, but it was perfectly alright if you're only looking for something basic.

The very friendly staff in the reception was one of the best parts of my stay here.

Finding a hotel in Oslo that met my budget was challenging, so I chose to stay here as it was one of the cheapest ones around. I stayed for two nights and had a single room. I was pleasantly surprised on the quality of the hotel. Yes, like some reviews say, it did have a slight hostel feel about it, but in some ways just added to the friendly atmosphere.
The staff at reception were very, very friendly and welcoming .. and very helpful; nothing was a problem for them. My room had a single bed, a desk, televison, a good bathroom/shower. No wifi in the room, you have to use it downstairs in the community lounge.
Cafeteria serves a good variety for breakfast; also an evening meal available (only one choice - but probably the cheapest meal you'll find in Oslo) - but be warned, kitchen closes at 5pm. They also offer a packed lunch you can take with you for the day.
Great location - easy walk from central railway station, then only just two blocks away from the main shopping area (and supermarket, restaurants), and also an easy walk to the ferries.
Late check out at 11am, but they have have luggage store room if you need it.

At first, I want to say this is a hotel...but clearly with low star-rating. But the strangest thing is that there are shared bedrooms in a hotel. Price is unreasonably high for the quality, although breakfast is provided.

There is no kitchen in the hotel which I really didn't think of, because I stayed in a shared bedroom, so I suppose it should be somewhat like a hostel that will be equipped with a guest kitchen... I felt disappointed, I would rather stay in a cheaper hostel without breakfast, at least I can use the kitchen, and the most important, I pay less for recieving the same.

I stayed there for 5 nights in 4-bedded room. I liked everything. The room and bathroom were clean, all staff were super friendly and helpful, nice breakfast. The location is great, just about 7 minutes from central station. I will stay there again.

Room Tip: 4-bedded room

One of the cheapest places to stay in Oslo...but that's not saying much! It's got a fantastic central location and the staff were all very friendly. The breakfast (included) was really good, although I think it depends on the day that you go on the quality of the spread that you get. I was staying in a 4 bed dorm, but it was equipped with multiple cupboards, two desks, a table, four chairs and a TV so really was more than a hostel. Definitely recommend it.

I arrived just before midnight without having booked nor called. The hostel is in the very centre, just one minute from the main street - Karl Johans Gate.
Annika gave me a bed in a five-bed room with no toilet, which was the only place they had available since the whole place was already booked up. So even if it was with no bathroom in the room, I had probably the biggest room I ever had! In any case, I could use the toilet of the games area (that was certainly empty after midnight), so to me it was OK. The guy from the reception who does the night shift was very kind and helped me with everything I needed. I paid NOK 300 (a bit more than € 30) and breakfast was included. It's actually a good price if you think about the Norwegian numbers!
The breakfast was nice, with a good variety of choices.

I recommend the Perminalen - do book in advance!

This place was a great base for a few tourist days in Oslo. Clean, well run with really helpful staff. Central for all the good places to visit without being too hectic. The rooms sleep 4 max, with a bathroom for every room so fairly luxurious by hostel standards. Free breakfast and WiFi. By far best value for money place I could find in Oslo which is not renowned for being a cheap place to stay. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone wanting to see Oslo on a budget.
