This is a nice place for a beer and catching up with friends

The food was really average. French onion soup was bland and lacked flavour and the salad was ok

It difficult to get bad food in Oslo as eerything is a bit pricey. This hotel, near to the hotel, was just the job on a cold evening.

...of the European restaurants that is. The place is easy to find, in the same building as the Radisson SAS at Holbergs Plass a little west of central Oslo. At the moment the 2 course menu is 199,- and the 3 course is 249,- plus beverages. Very unpretentious place, they have a set menu with a choice between 2-3 dishes for each course, as well as a range of desserts. (The chef is a celebrated pattisier). Go here to eat well for the same price you (at least) pay for similar meals in most other good restaurants in Oslo.

Jérome's is a great wee French restaurant centrally-located close to the Royal Palace, beside the SAS Radisson hotel. They have a fixed menu dinner (which is changed every Thursday, I think) for 199kr, which in my opinion is unbeatable for Oslo/Norway. Portions are perfectly-sized for me, but maybe some big eaters might think there's not enough on their plate. The quality of the dishes was pretty good - fresh, appetising and tasty. Jérome is trained as a "patissier" (and has apparently won many prizes back in France - the diplomas hang on the wall outside the toilets) and you choose your dessert from the wide selection of freshly-made cakes on the dessert table. My only slight complaint would be that several of the cakes look (and maybe taste) very similar.
Service is quick, professional and friendly. Some people apparently find it noisy due to the fairly low ceiling, but it was fine when we were there.
All in all, a great place for a tasty dinner in Oslo.
