We booked a reservation to stay the night at Lysebu hotel, partly due to the high regards for their restaurant; after all, we are arriving on a Sunday, and many restaurants seem to be closed on Sundays (the nice restaurant at Holmenkollen Park Hotel Rica is closed, for example, which was a big reason we looked elsewhere.)
Although the prix fixe menus is pricey, we figured we would indulge in a nice meal (and maybe an aquavit tasting flight) for our first night in the country. Looking at their hours, the website (and Visitnorway) say 6:00-10:00 pm Mon-Sun (every night of the week) for dinner. The restaurant website says "Every week, our head chef Michael Lunga composes a 7-course menu based on the finest seasonal ingredients."
Nowhere does it mention that the chef does NOT do this every week, because the restaurant appears to be completely closed for the entire month of July (and including the last weekend in June -- conveniently when we were booked to arrive); at least, that is what their online booking calendar states ("sommer stengt" -- if you translate to English, it says nothing at all on those dates, but shows no availability for booking between June 28-August 2)
There are no other restaurants around; if this were downtown Oslo we could walk somewhere, perhaps, but we specifically booked this place to AVOID downtown Oslo that night; with the restaurant closed, you have no choice but to leave the hotel and eat elsewhere.
We have had to cancel our hotel reservation and change plans as a result of this. It would be nice if they had noted somewhere on the hotel or restaurant website that you will have no chance to eat there in the middle of summer...
