Owner description: The river Akerselva runs from Maridalsvannet through the centre of Oslo and into the Oslo Fjord. The river is 8 km of recreation, through forests and industrial history, fishing, swimming and several waterfalls. The highest waterfall is next to Honse-Lovisas hus (a small, red house) and the Beier bridge.

When you follow this river you will discover a world with impressing waterfalls but also lovely modern architecture, historic buildings and nice parks. We started at Vøyenfallene and then cycled downstairs to the city centre. We were surprised at every corner. This is a must do in Oslo.

A well laid out footpath the length of this river makes for easy walking, through an interesting area of lake and woodland and in the lower stretches through areas of interesting old industrial buildings, some them converted to modern homes. It was along this river that Norway developed as an industrial nation in the late 19th and earlier 20th century.

Resembling the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas somewhat.
I can imagine this place being vibrant with people during summer when the surrounding trees are lush and green.

Get yourself up to Maridalsvannet. The main supplier of drinking water to the city of Oslo. Walk by the river. Take a swim in the summer. Experience the transgression from countryside to city life within the hour.
Beautiful !
And end the trip in Oslo’s ‘far east’. (mostly people from mid east. Lots of nikab’s)
Eastern enviroment (have a kebab with the locals)
It’ really different, and tells a story about Oslo’s modern development.
Just do it !

We had a most enjoyable and relaxing walk along this area. Seeing the modern architecture and water mix. Clean and tidy in the fresh winter's air.
