“Amazing new design hotel with super service”
Reviewed 3 February 2013

From the moment you enter the lobby, the staff at the hotel is doing their best to feel you welcome. We were met with hot towels, a guest we haven't experienced since our last visit in Thailand. We got a nice junior suite in 5th floor, and enjoyed a nice weekend at the hotel. The hotels interiour is designed by Anemone Wille Vaage, and it is an impressing and consistand luxury style with tones of brown, gold and light grey/green. The hotel is cooperating with the Astrup Fernley art museum near by, and guests have free entrance. A lot of art pieces are in the hotel, so if you like art and elegant design, the hotel is just great. Beds are incredible good, and the best of all was that we could open the doors to the terrace in the night, without fresh air we are not sleeping well. The supply of goods in the mini bar are incredible, ranging from face masks and nylon stockings to a few bottles of champagne. Great! The other very nice thing about the hotel is the breakfast. I have never had a better hotel breakfast, very tasty and healthy food, eggs on extremely good salmon on a soft roll, yummy! Crispy bacon, very finely cut fresh fruits. If I should complain a little it is that the coffee was rather thin. They should let the water stay on the coffee at least 6 minutes. Another great asset for this hotel is the restaurant Fru-K, their dinners and lunches are juste really great! They serve gourmet food at a level few other Oslo restaurants can offer. We asked for late checkout, and the reply was yes of course! All in all this is the best hotel in Oslo at the moment.

I was staying on the first night, so absolutely everything was untouched and new. Hotel has very nice location, in Tjuvholmen (next to Aker Brygge, which is Oslos finest seaside area). It is within walking distance to city center, but from central station it's better to take taxi. There might be limitations for taxi to stop next to the hotel, so be prepared to walk appr 200m. Hotel building is new and around that several buildings are still under constuction, so there might be some noise.
The Thief is full of hi-tech equipment. LCD and LED screens are everywhere - even in toilets. Room I had was very spacious and looked more like american not nordic style. Bed was electronically adjustable and very large with appr 6-8 pillows. I liked the balcony, even though it was tiny, you are able to get some fresh air and have a look outside.
Room has large LED TV, with Samsung tablet as remote control. Unfortunately Samsung finished cooperation quite soon, so definitely there are downsides with hi-tech gadgets.
In addition to coffee and tea making facilities and minibar there was also in-room shop available - very interesting assortment of practical items.
Staff was very welcoming and I especially enjoyed the evening bed making routine where 3 young ladies made up my bed for the night and brought good night tea cup.
Bathroom was large and had a shower. Only thing I missed was a box of Kleenex.
Wi-fi worked well everywhere in hotel.
Breakfast was modest compared to everything else, but can't complain. Restaurant seems to be popular meeting place for local celebrities.
So in overall - perfect place for honeymooners or for those want to pamper themselves. I haven't slept so well in ages.
Just be prepared for some minor challenges with IT and Norwegian price level which may hurt.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better view, some rooms have partial sea view

As you mentioned we are very new and some of the taxi companies are still having trouble instructing their drives that you can drive up to the front door of the hotel . If you travel with OSLO TAXI ( the largest and most reputable company ) you will arrive on our doorstep .

I will forward your comments to our staff and once again many thanks

Looking forward to your return

We had such a great stay at The Thief! What an amazing hotel! The design is excellent, the artwork spectacular and the service was brilliant. We stayed there during the opening week and the staff was very eager to make us feel comfortable.

The location is very good at Tyvholmen close to the Astrup Fearnley Museum, the Opera, the best shopping area etc. The room was exquisite with a lot of modern gadgets and the bed was the best hotel bed I have ever slept in. The breakfast was extremely good with a great variety of choices – my favorite was the home made paté.

We will definitely come back!

The Thief is located in a posh neighborhood called Tjuvholmen – an oceanfront area filled with restaurants, art galleries and museums. It has recently been built, so everything here is very clean and modern. The Thief has just opened, and they do have some problems with their computers at check-in and check-out. But I was greeted by professional staff, warm smiles and a cup of coffee while waiting for check-in to be completed. The hotel is filled with art, and it looks really cool. The bed was one of the best I have ever slept in. Breakfast was delivered by room service at 10:30 sharp, as requested. The room was of high standard, with a flat screen TV, iPod docking etc. Just as expected in a brand new hotel. Parking is easily available in the parking garage in the hotel`s basement. Overall highly recommended, and I will return ASAP.

Glad the coffee on arrival made the check in a little easier .
The comfort of the bed seems to be a recurring theme and one we feel is essential to a good hotel room .

The Thief! This brand new hotel is located in the hottest area of Oslo right now, on the island of “Tjuvholmen” (tjuv means thief….)
Well, the theft was fantastic! Very nice people working there – of course they had some problems with their systems since it is brand new, but it didn’t matter since they all were so nice to us. The hotel is filled up with art, and we had a good time looking at the different stuff they had on display. The parking could have been a bit easier (for us that want to drive the car down ourselves….), but beside that was the car safe though.
The room we got on the top was fantastic. All the pillows in the bed were a sight, but needed since there was only one comfy chair in the room – meaning the bed is where you also sit down…..
The bathroom was extremely nice, with rainforest shower and good enough for two to have a shower….
AND, the bathrobe was just fantastic! It was in fact possible to buy it, but for the offered price I didn’t want to do that….
The room bar was filled and it was also possible to buy other things – included a new shirt! Nice to know if you have forgotten something back home.
We had breakfast in the room for an extra charge (breakfast is included in the room price), which was served precisely as we had requested.
All rooms have a balcony, either towards the street or on the back. Very nice to have when you smoke since it is not allowed smoking inside.
We had dinner late Saturday evening in the restaurant Fru-K in the hotel – see separate review.
Almost forgot – it is allowed to have your dog with you!
I think the employees will have all their routines worked out the next few weeks, and I am certain this hotel will be a success.

Beautiful hotel and service minded staff, we had a great overnight experience in this new hotel! Despite it being opening week, the stay went without any problems!

I would highly recommend it to young and old, and for art lovers or not!

It might be a little bit too fancy for some, but if you like the finer things and spoiling yourself, the this hotel is the place for you :)
