“Have stayed in far better drop the pretence!!”
Reviewed 14 March 2013

This hotel was trumpeted as a supposed messiah for an otherwise lacking first class hotel in Oslo. To be honest it is nothing special there is too much emphasis on a supposed 'style'. Like most things in Norway it lacks that "A" factor in is no way what I would deem luxurious. It panders to the 'trendy' crowd but lacks a certain class and seems to be aimed at the 'new money brigade', The location is tucked away and has the feel of a modern office block from the outside. It trades on its supposed prestigious location but frankly the area is ugly with a hotch potch of glass and metal built monstrosities that will look dated in 10 years. It totally lacks atmosphere! Also the prices of rooms are exorbitant completely over the top. I suggest the management take a good look at the reception area it is about as warm and welcoming as a morgue with a very dingy atmosphere. Overal a big disappointment and offers very little value for money. I would not recommend a stay here.

An amazing hotel. Beautifully decorated, excellent staff, very good food in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Lovely location. The bed was the most comfortable I've slept in for years.

Conference room on the top floor was excellent also. Good WiFi speeds and beautiful views.

Overall I couldn't fault it.

OK what a fantastic surprise.
After spending several nights every year in Oslo for the last 15 years. I was getting used to pay lot, and recieve less.
The Thief is different from you enter the little island of Tjuvholmen
Still in the high end price, but finally value for money. The Thief is quality from parking, the reception, the bar, the rooms, even dinner is good. I had the same feeling as if it was The Soho House hotel in NY.
Honestly I cant wait to have an excuse to get back to Oslo

Thanks Petter :-)

Stayed a weekend at The Thief mid February and it was a pleasant experience.
The check-in was smooth, and as this is a brand new hotel, the general feel was fresh.
I wouldnt consider it a 5 star hotel, but at least it challenges the top hotels in Oslo.
The room was decent sized, with Geneva sound system, tablet as well as large flat screen TV.
The iron that is in the room, is unfortunately not up to standard, but managed to borrow a steam iron from the front desk.
The bar serves great drinks and good service, although was slightly surprised by the small bar area.
Restaurant food was ok but nothing more.

Conclusion: If in Oslo, it's well worth a stay, but don't expect a premium luxury experience.

Nice and clean with amazing atmosfere. Now the routine was in place and sith a nice touch in every thing they do. The conference room was very nice. But crapy internett access. You should expect more in 2013 and in a hotel in this class..

We arrived the day after they opened which in hindsight was not wise. The staff were friendly but seemed distracted by the invited guests (hotel reviewers).
The minibar was not fully stocked and despite promises to do so did not happen; there was no room service menu-only the downstairs bar menu which we had to ask for and this was very limited.(3 items to choose from) There were no movie channels or subscription channels in the room. After housekeeping the toiletries were not restocked and the paper was not delivered. The mini safe did not work and there wasn't any business centre.
We had to ring front office several times for items that were missing - many times there was no answer- another sign that staff were preoccupied with photoshoots and non-paying guests. At check-out there was no-one at front office again.
At breakfast we were given a menu for ala carte breakfast which looked good but no-one came to take our order. (a reason why we didn't eat at the hotel restaurant that night, as they did not seem to be ready for guests)
The room was definitely well appointed and the bed extremely comfortable - however being charged the full rate( at over $500.00(AUD) a night) you do expect all the services to be ready.

Greetings and many thanks for your comments
As you quite rightly mentioned we did suffer a few " teething problems" the day after opening . I´m very happy to say that we have rectified the problems you have mentioned and would be very happy to welcome you back for another stay at The Thief . I would also appreciate you letting us know before your arrival so we can provide you with The Thief factor that could make up in some way for your earlier stay .

Once again many thanks for your feedback

From the moment you enter the lobby, the staff at the hotel is doing their best to feel you welcome. We were met with hot towels, a guest we haven't experienced since our last visit in Thailand. We got a nice junior suite in 5th floor, and enjoyed a nice weekend at the hotel. The hotels interiour is designed by Anemone Wille Vaage, and it is an impressing and consistand luxury style with tones of brown, gold and light grey/green. The hotel is cooperating with the Astrup Fernley art museum near by, and guests have free entrance. A lot of art pieces are in the hotel, so if you like art and elegant design, the hotel is just great. Beds are incredible good, and the best of all was that we could open the doors to the terrace in the night, without fresh air we are not sleeping well. The supply of goods in the mini bar are incredible, ranging from face masks and nylon stockings to a few bottles of champagne. Great! The other very nice thing about the hotel is the breakfast. I have never had a better hotel breakfast, very tasty and healthy food, eggs on extremely good salmon on a soft roll, yummy! Crispy bacon, very finely cut fresh fruits. If I should complain a little it is that the coffee was rather thin. They should let the water stay on the coffee at least 6 minutes. Another great asset for this hotel is the restaurant Fru-K, their dinners and lunches are juste really great! They serve gourmet food at a level few other Oslo restaurants can offer. We asked for late checkout, and the reply was yes of course! All in all this is the best hotel in Oslo at the moment.
