“Very Nice Hotel”
Reviewed 22 July 2014 via mobile

My husband and I stayed at The Thief for three days earlier in July. This is a very nice, extremely clean, modern hotel, with an ideal location for restaurants etc. The bed was beyond comfortable!! Breakfast was delicious and staff attentive. Check in was super fast with no fuss. Our luggage was already in our room as we had used a courier service to deliver it as we were en route on the Norway in a Nutshell tour. Check out was just as simple and all staff extremely courteous.

I do have a couple of points I would like to mention though. Despite booking a large deluxe room with water view, we were a little disappointed to find that the room was smaller than anticipated and you really had to be out on the balcony to see the water, rather than simply looking out of the window, so it wasn't the water view we were looking forward to. This was mentioned to staff as we believed we may have been given a standard or superior room but it was confirmed that we did in fact have a deluxe room and there were no other larger rooms with a better view available.

This was no fault of the hotel, just a design fault, but at a 5 star luxury hotel, you would expect that the bath mat would stay dry outside the shower door, but alas this was not meant to be and the door would not open with the mat in place. Neither was there a towel rail anywhere near the shower door which seemed a little odd.

I would expect to pay for specific treatments, but I would not expect to have to pay a spa access fee to use the swimming pool. This should definitely have been included in the room rate.

All in all a very nice stay, but we have stayed in better 5 Star hotels in other areas of the world.

Our family stayed here and we were a group of 15. The hotel is new and state of the art in many aspects including having good AC which isn't always the case in Europe. The staff are lovely and very helpful and accommodated our requests. The interior design is very well done and the rooms are beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Fantastic location on the water.

Room Tip: All of our rooms were great

We have stayed in several places in Oslo and The Thief Hotel is our new favorite. It is luxurious, comfortable, beautiful, and well located. It is filled with modern art. Anyone who stays gets free admission to the nearby modern art museum - a nice touch. The staff is welcoming and helpful. The rates are most reasonable for a luxury hotel. We would surely return.

My wife and I stayed at the Thief early July. The staff were courteous, the rooms tastefully done, the toiletries were of top quality and the buffet breakfast very good. The location is awesome, walking distance to the waterfront and city hall, as well as to a large number of restaurants. We had to take a taxi at 4 AM to catch an early flight and the front desk arranged it. If I return to Oslo, this hotel would be my choice - the standard rooms are a little small though.

Room Tip: Please ask for an upgrade from a standard room - the standard rooms are a little small

Great hotel! Staff is super nice, room is not only nicely decorated but also extremely comfortable, with a Nespresso machine, good quality sheets and a lovely bathroom. Details are always important and make a huge difference!
Food is also outstanding, even the "asian soup" that I ordered from the room service.
Location is perfect! Close to the museums and good restaurants. We just needed to cross the bridge to get to a very good japanese.
Lovely experience!!

Room Tip: I believe all the rooms are good. We had an standard room, 428, which was on a corner, maybe a littl...

It seems somewhat out of the way, but easy walking along the waterfront and somewhat longer walk into town, which is ok as long as it is not raining. But it rains a lot in Oslo.

The rooms are impressive and modern. The hotel is modern and "happening", which might not be what you want for vacationing. It is a very expensive hotel, but then again, everything in Norway is expensive.

The staff was very nice and accommodating. I cannot say anything bad - everything was actually great. But if I go back to Oslo, I would want to try the Hotel Continental, which is in the heart of the city.

Greetings and many thank for your review of The Thief . As you mentioned were located on the Oslo Fjord in a new district called Tjuvholmen about 10 minutes walk from the city center ( weather permitting) . You also have the option of arriving by car / taxi / boat and pulling up directly outside the hotel . Great to hear that you enjoyed your stay and hope you enjoy trying other properties in the city
