“Economic Stay with great location in Oslo”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Let's face it, most things in Oslo are expensive. If you want to stay in a clean, safe and nicely-located hotel in Oslo, this is the most economic place which matches the criteria I mentioned. But yes, this is good for just short stays and when you would be out of the hotel most of the time sightseeing. Definitely tiny rooms but if you want larger pay more somewhere else. Don't expect much from this hotel though as it is literally all about having a clean, safe and nicely-located hotel on a budget. That's all.

If space was a constraint, the designer has done an excellent job of packing in everything in about 6 M2 of space- wall to wall bed, TV, clothes hanging space- and a toilet &shower!

The place is good value for money, but is meant only for for sleeping and nothing beyond. The ground floor has a cafeteria which supplies tea/coffee 24X7, and breakfast.

The hotel is located very centrally, both for tourists, and potentially for budget business travelers.

Room Tip: I understand that all rooms are equally tiny. Travel with min baggage since it will occupy precious...

This hotel is an excellent value. It has everything --- location, modern facilities, wifii, and a great breakfast, BUT be prepared for an extremely small space. The "built-in" double bed, drop-down shelf for baggage, and tiny shower and sink may be too small for some travelers and for couples to share.

Never been in a hotel with such a small room...basically you have the bed and maybe 70cm to the wall.
The bathroom is under 1 sq.m
The hotel is clean and the location is really good but there is no way you can call this a double room
We paid ca 125 usd for 2 person for 1 night, Of course it's a bargain in Oslo but put in another 30 usd and get something much more comfortable like the Bondeheimet hotell

They have posted in the elevator that they are one of the ten best budget hotels in Oslo. I find that a joke! As I was extremely disappointed by this hotel. The price was over 100 USD a night and the room was smaller than a prison cell for 2 people. Of course they do not have 2 single beds so I was forced to take the floor and my friend the bed as the bed was about the size of a single not a double. Hardly big enough for 1 person. It was VERY cramped inside the room. Mattress also had stains on it which was disgusting.

Male receptionists were very rude and unfriendly the female ones were very nice. Actually went to the Hotel Thron down the street to ask for directions and they were really helpful! Even though we were not guests in their hotel. This hotel also does NOT have the Oslo pass so we needed to go to hotel Thron again to buy it. And when we asked the Spanish receptionist at Smarthotel he was clueless as to where we could acquire the Oslo pass, which is perplexing since most tourists need/want to buy it!

Next, you can only buy breakfast with a credit card which was quite upsetting as we had already exchanged money and could not use it. Unlike all other hotels which accepted cash for breakfast.

Besides the room being small you need to make sure the door locks. Which means using your key card to lock it. There is a false sense of security because I "locked" it by closing the door and pressed down hard and then the door opened. Be very careful with this!!! Make sure you press down hard to make sure the door is actually locked!

Location was good that's about all. Do yourself a favor and just book somewhere a little more expensive and save yourself the stress of this place. I wouldn't come back here if you paid me!

Booked this room for a two night stay in Oslo in June, 2014. Room is tiny to say the least... two persons would not be able to manoeuvre themselves comfortably within the little space. Saying that, the value for the room is amazing, considering sky high Norwegian pricing. I paid approximately €160 for two nights, for a double room. We had free wifi, which had a very good connection. Room also had a TV with some great channels. Bathroom was tiny, in correlation to room size of course, but manageable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was GREAT! Only about ten minutes away from the port! Some great gardens and parks around the area and some lovely museums. Also about five minutes away from the National Theatre train station, so that's also an added bonus. No need for buses or taxis to get to the train! All in all well worth it. I would stay in this place again should I revisit Oslo :)

Our first time in Oslo. What a great find this hotel was. Conveniently located with free bicycle rentals available. Walking distance from the port (best seafood) and shopping. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Public transportation just two blocks away that will take you anywhere in the city. Great for layovers if you have 24 hours to kill. The Smarthotel was a great experience and I will seek them out in other cities. We don't spend much time in our rooms so this was perfect. The breakfast was abundant and tasty. Communal seating makes for interesting conversations. If you prefer to eat by yourself that is also an option. I highly recommend this hotel and its location.

Room Tip: The room we stayed in was efficient with the largest bathroom I have ever seen in a hostel. We trave...
