Billed as not a great area it really isn't that bad.We felt completely safe so ignore the scaremongering. The hotel is clean, quiet, wonderfully friendly and helpful especially Haarald on the desk. Best sleep I've ever had in a hotel. We had a juniour suite which was ideal. The free wifi is great. The food is delicious, like home cooked food away from home and as much as you can eat. The free afternoon pancakes and fresh coffee on tap is a real blessing in an expensive city. I can't recomment this place enough. If you're looking for stuck up pretenciousness this is not the place for you, no one will fawn over you. Instead it is quiet friendly Scandanavian hospitality that is like staying with a best friend. Fantastic!

Room Tip: Juniour Suite is great

if you are in Oslo, stay at the Clarion Collection Bastion. The staff is the friendliest we ever experienced, the rooms ar big for a city hotel, very clean, and every evening there is a small buffett waiting for you for free!! You can also help yourself to delicious waffels in the afternoon.
Hotellet er bare topp! Jeg reiser en del med grupper, og de ansatte på Clarion Bastion er helt enestående. De er tålmodig, vennlige, serviceminded og veldig imøtekommende. Takk for en kjempehyggelig opphold!

The Hotel Clarion Bastion is located in a very bad Area of Oslo. Around the hotel there is a lot of construction going on and the bars around the hotel are frequented by a lot drunk people. The hotel itself is very dirty and the rooms are not clean. The furniture in our rooms were either broken or not functioning. What a bloody experience! The guests are either backpakers or cheap american tourists looking for an afordable accomodation in Oslo. I would definitely not recommend this hotel. There are much nicer and cleaner hotels in Oslo and in a better area!

The hotel is about a 20 min walk from the Central station. The sidewalk in front is populated by seedy characters and littered with cigarette buts. Extensive construction going on in front which was loud in the morning. The lobby is dim, with faded rugs, scratched furniture. On seeing our room and requesting a better one, we were told we had already been upgraded to a "traditional room". The room contained worn and liberally scarred furniture, a faded and torn rug, and worn and stained chair upholstery.
The beds were reasonably comfortable and the bathroom clean although towels a bit thin. The staff were very accommodating and pleasant, and the breakfasts good.

Room Tip: We were told that more modern rooms were available but were very small, so since the bathroom and bed were OK, elected to stay.

All that you could wish for. Comfortable rooms. Charming personnel, all day coffee and tea. Buffet breakfast, pancakes in the afternoon and an adequate evening supper. Would not hesitate to recommend or stay again.
