We chose this hotel because of the Tripadvisor reviews. While this hotel was rated very high, we were disappointed. Although staff were very friendly, our room was small, with a view of another building. There was no room to open both luggages unless we placed them both on the bed, there were no hangers in the closet, the bathroom was barely large enough to turn around in (and there was a foldable-door shower in there too). Although there are two meals a day (some say three with free waffles in the afternoon), only the breakfast is worth anything (nice buffet with anything you could ever want). The first night we went to dinner it was inedible, so we ate out the next night, at a very nice restaurant. Caution: there are steps going into the hotel with no valet or doorman to help if you have heavy luggage. The location is fine for people with backpacks (sidewalks from the train station are narrow and bumpy), but if you have heavy luggage I suggest a taxi. I know Oslo is not like most large cities, but this hotel is overpriced, especially for the small rooms.

Room Tip: Get a suite.

We chose the Bastion for it's location which was good had it not been for the construction. Thankfully it ceased by evening and did not disturb us. We also chose the Clarion for the name and the price ~$400/night (U.S.) The size of the room was large and roomy but the bathroom had the smell of sewage backing up in the shower and commode. We had to leave the window open to air it out. Beds were quite uncomfortable - very hard! Not firm beds, but just plain hard! We have traveled enough in Europe to understand there is a different level of expectation of comfort. Unfortunately, the hotel did not meet these expectations. This was our first stay at the Clarion brand and we booked based only on reviews.

We slept in on our second morning and when we came down for the free breakfast the assortment had more items than usual. After having coffee, we went to the buffet for breakfast. About half way through our meal a staff member came to tell us we would be charged because the buffet was only for conference attendees that day. We saw no signs as we entered the buffet area, there were no signs by the food, we were not notified in our rooms. Lastly, no one said anything as we sat in that same area enjoying our coffee. Had we known we would not have willingly spent ~$20 per person for coffee, toast and fruit.

Our group of four chose this hotel from Trip Advisor. We were completely satisfied. By U.S. standards it is expensive, but the location, the quality of the rooms, and the service were excellent. One particular major plus for us was that in addition to breakfast, they provide a better than adequate dinner and an afternoon snack, which helps both in planning sightseeing with regard to meals and in affording Oslo.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights during July,2012,we live in south of the UK and made the journey to catch the Springsteen concert at the Valle Hovin Arena on 21/07/2012.
We are world-wide travellers but have never been to Oslo or Norway so after careful research we decided to stay at the "Bastion" and I have got to say that we were delighted by the reception we received, we were upgraded to a superior room because of the length of our stay, all the staff were supremely professional and courteous and the fact that we could also indulge in a superb buffet breakfast and "light" evening meal within the room price made it very good value for money. The hotel is very central and only a few minutes walk from the Central Station, the major shopping strip, the opera house and it is also an easy stroll to the waterfront with its many sight-seeing trips.Recommend you drop into the "Hard Rock Cafe" for a brill chill out afternoon !!!!!
