First off, YOU CAN EASILY MAKE RESERVATIONS ON LINE - JUST SEND THEM AN EMAIL!!! NO PROBLEM!!! . We went on a Friday night. Had a 18:30 reservation, half the place was already full when we arrived - lively atmosphere - you feel like you're at a party, but the service between courses was so long that we drank way too much wine (we got the pairing with the wine which seemed to be the case for all of the other guests). We forgot how much the Norwegians love to drink and although we love a cozy, casual feel to a place, when drunk guests start leaning over and pulling at your shirt saying they like it and want to buy it from you or when they keep getting up to go relieve themselves and nearly tumble onto your table, it starts to get a bit much. This is a very expensive restaurant and at least for our budget, we wanted it to be special, so that was a bit of a shame. Some of the dishes were absolutely amazing (food almost exploding in your mouth with fabulous flavor), but we really started to wonder if the kitchen was short staffed when we waited for almost 45 min. between some courses (remember, we're talking TEN courses here). The course that preceded the succulent Norwegian lamb dish was a mediocre mango-vodka slushy (didn't really need any more alcohol) By the time the cheese course came, I was almost ready to pass out, I'd been plied with so much wine as I waited and waited and waited for my next dish. Thankfully,my husband and I enjoy each other's company!
The dessert was a great disappointment - three strange little mini-ice cream/sorbet globs served in little take-away style cartons. Really a throwaway dish. We'd been to this restaurant 10 years ago and thought it was terrific, some of the dishes are astounding - not sure if it was just an off night re: service or not. We might return, if we do, we'll definitely order one or two bottles of wine and not go with the wine pairing which cost AS MUCH AS THE MEAL and we also might bring along a book!

If u like food, this is the restaurant. The only problem with Palace is you can not reserve a table.
On the other hand, this is a blessing. Just ask for food. This is the place, if u manage to get a table. You have to be there early( 17 hrs) to get a table.

Excellent food served in a very cosy and romantic restaurant. Will definitely be visiting again.

Only downside is the pub toilet.

Absolutely wonderful food, fit for any foodie alive. 10 courses, fixed menu and price. Wine paring is popular, but optional. One seating per night. If you can afford it, by all means go when in Oslo.

A few things that others have not said:

1) You need to be at the restaurant and one of the first 20 diners in order to be seated
2) Seating occurs between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. If you don't arrive before 7:00, you will not get in
3) The price turns out to be somewhere between $200 and $500 per person, depending upon whether wine is involved, and whether you opt for the cheese course

Be prepared to spend a lot, but the meal and the total experience of the Palace Grill is worth it.
