Comfort Hotel Trondheim

We stayed at the Comfort Hotel for two nights as a respite between various budget backpacker hostels in Norway. We picked the Comfort Hotel as it was a nice looking budget hotel in our price range (just!).

Norway, and Scandinavia in general is a VERY expensive place to travel. Food, accommodation, attractions, transport, everything will cost one and half to twice what you may be used to paying in Australia, the States and Europe.

Glad to say we got our moneys worth here. The hotel is well situated and easy to locate, about a 10 minute walk from the Hurtigruten Coaster Steamer terminal, on a small back street just off a main road. Opposite it is the Trondheim Cinema (Kino).

Lots of restaurants in the vicinity but all are expensive, your best bet is probably the Rema 1000 supermarket about 15 meters down on the main road, where you can also buy beer before the 6pm cutoff. Egon restaurant (part of a Norwegian restaurant chain) had an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet all day on Sunday and Monday for 99 kroner, great value as the pizza is crisp and has lots of toppings.

Check in was effortless (we arrived around 10pm), we showed a print out of our booking and were handed a key. Self service checkin was also available but we did not use it , looked pretty straight forward. Free wifi access is available, and there is a row of computer terminals for guest use, also free but REALLY slow. Use a smart phone instead if you have one.

Room was a little on the small size but very clean and modern. Nice carpet, large flatscreen tv (with usb etc connections so you can see the photos off your camera!). No minibar or safe, but unlimited free coffee and hot chocolate is available at reception 24 hours. Bed was too soft, pillows were pretty flat down feather pillows, but I have yet to find a nice, supportive pillow in the whole of Norway!

Bathroom was again small, spotless and modern. They really need a shower screen in there though, whenever we had a shower half the bathroom floor would get soaked.

Buffet breakfast was varied and delicious, very filling.

Would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in Trondheim, and would stay here again without hesitation.

Stayed here two nights in the beginging of may 2011. The hotel is modern looking and clean. Stayed in a quite small room whit a microscopic bathroom with glass slide door that was very impractical! The staff was a bit wierd and unfocused, especially at the hotel café in the lobby. The breakfast was great and good with late checkout! Overall a quite average hotel but whit great location in the small center of trondheim..

Nice new modern hotel located very central in Trondheim. The room was a little on the small side but with enough space to work and relax. The bathroom was good size. The room had a large flat screen TV. The restaurant is more like a cafe with a basic menu offering. The breakfast is very nice although limited with hot food. Parking is not available in the hotel so you need to be lucky to get one on the street close to the hotel or walk a distance back from a parking house.

Room Tip: Make sure you get an external window

Good location just a few blocks from the train station. Clean, safe, freindly efficient staff. Very nice breakfast. Central to sightseeing. Would not hesitate to stay again. Not much around for dinner/lite bite if arriving late.
Hated the glass bathroom doors. Whose brilliant idea is this?

Nice hotel in the center of the city.
There is no garage, but sufficient parking places in the streets for the car.

Room were ok, not extremely large, but highly sufficient for 2 persons. Flat screen TV with option to connect your laptop to the TV (the reception can provide you with cable if needed)

The breakfast was good, a lot of choice.

We haven't sleep well but nothing to do with the hotel. It was the day before the national day and as such people were already out in the street to party.

Check in was extremely fast even if there was just one person behind the desk in the lobby and I got room 346 on the third floor. The room was Ok at first sight with modern furniture and dark carpet. The walls were painted in a beige/green color and with a large section of brown curtains on one of the walls. With such a large section of curtains I expected more windows but it turned out that the curtains were just a decoy to show an illusion of lots of windows. In reality there are not that many windows and hence my room felt kind of dark. There were no traditional wardrobe but a contraption with a few hangers and a mirror. There was also a desk integrated in the wall together with a TV – a TV that was a bit too far away from the bed to my liking. The room also featured two larger chairs and a tiny table between the chairs. The bed itself was comfy enough but the room got quite warm during the night and I can’t remember if there was a temperature setting anywhere in the room.
The bathroom entrance was right next to the bed and there was just a frosted glass sliding door separating the two rooms – this seems to be a new trend. The bathroom was all fresh and new with dark tiles on the floor and white tiles on the walls. No amenities apart from a dispenser soap in the shower and above the sink and plastic cups to be used when brushing the teeth. I guess the dispenser soap makes sense considering the environmental impact but it would have been great to at least have a shampoo and a shower gel.
As far as I could tell the room did not have any mini-bar or safe.
Breakfast was pretty good – as usual for Norwegian hotels. In this hotel there seems to be a lot of focus on organic food so a lot of the food on display was marked accordingly. The breakfast area is in the lobby and with an open setting it looks great. With glass roofing you get lots of light in and there was a HUGE poster of a woman on one of the walls. There was also a “business center” right next to the breakfast area – meaning quite a few PC’s with internet connection. The wifi at the hotel is free by the way – great!
The location of the hotel is good – located in Krambugata it only takes 5 minutes to walk to Torget and there are bars and restaurants within a few steps from the hotel.
So all in all: a modern, sleek, new hotel with a good location. I don’t have much to complain about when it comes to this hotel but I’m also having a hard time getting really enthusiastic about the place. But for a one night business trip this hotel work just fine. I had to pay about 1000 NOK for the room with taxes and breakfast included – about 180 USD. Sorry for the low quality photos – they were taken with my cell phone.

Checkin was fast and friendly.

Room was fairly small but was in good condition. Requested a quite room which I also was given.

WIFI was free with acceptable speed and stability.

Breakfast offered several basic choices suiting my needs and wishes.

Hotel is ok for one night stay. If I would stay more than one night, I would prefer another hotel with larger rooms.
