“Decent place in the middle of the city”
Reviewed 14 March 2012

Stayed for two nights with my family. As normal in Norway the Hotels are expensive and the standard is basic. We where looking for a hotel in the city center that was affordable. Have to say that nearly all Hotels in Trondheim are in the city with walking distance the main tourist attractions of the city. But the Thon Hotel had the best offer when we where visiting. I booked through the internet a standard double. We had our baby with us and were thinking that we didnt need much space. Apperantly the hotel was not fully booked so we got a room that was a little bigger than anticipated when the lady at the reception flirted with our baby. (Although we didnt asked for it nor expected it) That was a first nice impression. The hotel had free coffe and tea at the reception as well as free internet/Wifi. The room was clean. The beds where a little bit too soft, but this is just a personal preference. The room was a double, but it was actually two beds standing next to each other so we had a crack between the beds, this is always a minus for me when rating hotels. Breakfest was also standard, no big and fancy stuff, but I did not expect it either.
As a resume I can recommend the Thon Trondheim Hotel if you are just looking for a place to stay at for a couple of days without spending too much money.

The hotel overall is small, average rooms, average bathrooms, but all very clean, neat and tidy. The hotel has a Car park, which you have to pay extra. The lobby is 4 chairs… great restaurant, good food, but awfully expensive. Meal for 2 with wine total €100. Norway is not the cheapest place in Europe, but the dearest of all.

In fairness, this is not a holiday hotel, but a business hotel, in and out, no special amenities, no soul. Location is very central

Room Tip: The Radisson Blu in Trondheim is great and has the best location in Trondheim.

Despite the Thon being thought of as a budget hotel, we were pleasantly surprised. A bit worn, but the location in the center of the city makes it worth it. A very helpful staff.

I stayed here when I visited "Olavsfestdagene" - Norway's largest church and cultural festival. I chose a room on the back side of the hotel because of less noise from the traffic. I had no view there, the room was small and simple. But my wish was to have a place to sleep and eat breafast and both was very satisfactory! I choose this hotel everytime I visit Trondheim, because it's cheap and in the middle of the city.

This is a budget hotel and is overall an OK hotel. It hasn't got any charm, it isn't cozy; however, it offers a good bed and a decent breakfast. The best about the hotel is probably its location.

Room Tip: book one of the rooms who face the backyard

Right in the centre of town, excellent value (for Norway). Breakfast included, not fancy, but entirely adequate. Room was clean, and although the furniture were not new, they were entirely all right. Really nothing to complain about.

This hotel is perfect if you like to sleep naked, because you will not be able to adjust the temperature in your room. The window doesn't open and there is no thermostat to program. The rooms are very outdated, the bed is old, with a tatty bedspread and lumpy pillow, and the furniture looked plucked straight from a yard sale.

The room I had (422) is a skinny, narrow cell shape. The bathroom is small, with a shower right by the sink with only a curtain separating the two. I had to put my shampoo on the ledge of the sink as there are no shelves or places to put toiletries. There is no fan in the bathroom, which creates a lot of steam and humidity - not ideal in an already stuffy room.

The breakfast was adequate, and there is free wireless internet, making the experience tolerable. I wouldn't stay here again however, unless I was stepping up from camping.
