Owner description: Rockheim is the national museum of popular music. Since the museum's opening in 2010 there has been a steady stream of visitors eager to learn about norwegian music and its history. Music is a source of enjoyment. It creates a sense of belonging and offers new experiences. But it is also a vital source of knowledge of ourselves and our cultural history. Behind the scenes, Rockheim's staff is engaged in managing and researching Norway's pop and rock music, and in making it accessible to the public. The visit to Rockheim begins in the spectacular "Top Box". From the main exhibit on the 6th floor you proceed down floor by floor. The music and stories are communicated by means of interactive exhibit technology and objects from the museum's collections. You are welcomed by Rockheim's guides, who will be your hosts and will answer your questions about the exhibits.

Rockheim is Norway’s national museum of pop and rock music. They are open 6 days a week and it only cost NOK 100 to get in. Here you'll find something for everybody, small or grown up. There's things to try, things to touch, pictures to view, music to hear and different exhibition.
5-10 minutes walk from the city center, good parking space and located near to one of Trondheims finest hotels at Brattørkaia. Be sure to have enough time!!

This museum features music history from various decades, mostly Norwegian music. It is a good choice to make the exhibition interactive. We had a good time and could easily have spent three or four hours. We particularly enjoyed the heavy metal room, and was a bit disappointed that the projector in the Knutsen & Ludvigsen room was out of order. Both genres are among our favourites. (Not joking!) One of us was thrilled to discover that Patti Boyd's exhibition "George and Eric and me" is here presently. Rockheim is recommended!

3 things Norway is famous for: Oil. Nature(?). Black Metal.

Travelled during first week Jan and it was the quiet and not packed at all! One of the the best places to go on a Sunday as most places are closed.

This is a brilliant museum. If you've got an interest in pop music, you don't need to be au fait with the Norwegian artists. The design is brilliant with different interactive processes in each thematically-styled room; one from each decade since the 50s. Some of the rooms such as the 80s which are 1 large shared experience work best when there are fewer people around but the 70s room with its individual headphones and tables offer a different experience. The staff are excellent - just the right level of intervening when you're struggling but not making you feel like you have to do everything on offer. Well thought-out, great content, great delivery, most of the content in English, a video play-along with Ronni Le Tekrø, probably the only museum in the world with a 'Black Metal' room - complete with old-style cassette driven interactive feature and screen. This is a must for any music fan.
