Another excursion on our voyage to the Midnight Sun was a bus tour of the Fjords from Alesund which included travelling over the Trolls Pathway. Trolls are apparently odd human like souls who live in the subterranean dark who only come to the earth's surface at night. Their one failing is if they the sun's first rays fall on them they turn to stone and their remains are etched on mountain rock faces. Indeed they are still there to see on mountain rock faces all around the west coast of Norway. Judging the number around the Trollstigen a lot of Trolls must have enjoyed a party and stayed a little too long and met their solar fate on a early morn. Our bus climbed the Trolls Pathway from the back way and the view from the top was just breathtaking. The Trollstigen viewed from the cantilevered viewing deck was amazing and testament to all those who were involved in it's construction. It was cloudy and quite cold when we were there in June which added to the starkness of the mountain pass, waterfalls and it's surrounding snow laced mountains. After descending the pass we had lunch in a restaurant in a beautiful valley below the Trollstigen. Not to be missed if you are touring that way.

Fantastic place! We were surprised when we saw that the road continues on the other slope. On the top of the other slope there was a cloud and was raining (or maybe snowing?) - it was wonderful!
We were going uphill, but it seems that all busses are going downhill (that may matter for those who do not like to pass with busses on a narrow road).

This was our favorite visit on our trek through Norway! It is such a spectacular vantage point to view the landscape. The hairpin turns are quite nerve wracking, but fun non the less! The visitor center is quite nice, and the soft serve ice cream was delicious!
The water fall is tremendous, and the best view is from the bottom looking up. This is a mist-see!

It's a fantastic road to drive on and even though it's quite busy you can still have a lot of fun. This is definitely a must do before you die Road to drive on, as I said a petrolhead must drive on this road or his life will not be complete.

Trollstigen is fun to drive. The roads are secure but sometime you may wish you had a smaller car :).The view and steepness of Trollstigen is something you can experience very few places from a car. On the top there have been created som artificial photo 'towers' that give you a great opportunity to take great photos down the road. If you got a videocamera i recomend to record your drive up/down :)

Most prefer to do this trip in the midle of the summer, but a trip just after the road opens after the Winter will give you an even greater trip :)
