Another excursion on our voyage to the Midnight Sun was a bus tour of the Fjords from Alesund which included travelling over the Trolls Pathway. Trolls are apparently odd human like souls who live in the subterranean dark who only come to the earth's surface at night. Their one failing is if they the sun's first rays fall on them they turn to stone and their remains are etched on mountain rock faces. Indeed they are still there to see on mountain rock faces all around the west coast of Norway. Judging the number around the Trollstigen a lot of Trolls must have enjoyed a party and stayed a little too long and met their solar fate on a early morn. Our bus climbed the Trolls Pathway from the back way and the view from the top was just breathtaking. The Trollstigen viewed from the cantilevered viewing deck was amazing and testament to all those who were involved in it's construction. It was cloudy and quite cold when we were there in June which added to the starkness of the mountain pass, waterfalls and it's surrounding snow laced mountains. After descending the pass we had lunch in a restaurant in a beautiful valley below the Trollstigen. Not to be missed if you are touring that way.
