This was easily our most favourite b&b during our 2 week trip to Norway. It's set on a pretty cobbled street just a couple of minutes from Bryggen, the historic wharf which is a a world heritage site. The b&b itself was clean and beautifully decorated - our room was large, the bed very comfortable and soft (we just collapsed after our overnight train from Oslo!). There was a bathroom across the hall to share with a couple of other rooms, but as we were the only guests we had it to ourselves. We were also able to use the lounge and kitchen as we wanted, which was great.
Breakfast was by far the best in our experience - there was a wide variety of cereal, fresh berries, yoghurt, cold meats and fish. Yvonne, the owner is lovely: very helpful and friendly and also gave us a great recommendation for where to have dinner.
We would love to return when we come to Bergen again for a summertime visit!

This was my first experience of Norwegian hospitality and a pleasant experience it was too. Looking at previous comments there is indeed a small hill to get to the guesthouse but most people of average fitness should manage it without problem. Even if your fitness is poor a slow stroll up the hill is worth it as the guesthouse, in a wooden house, is in a very pretty, historic part of town.

The house itself is clean, warm and comfortable. We made ourselves at home in the living room, which has a TV, before and after our evenings out. Breakfast was lovely with a range of fish, cheese, ham and some scrambled egg. It certainly set us up for the day!

We have been in Bergen twice in a matter of months and stayed at To Sostre both times. Having met both Yvonne and Renate they are very helpful and pleasant innkeepers. The Canopy room is very comfortable and the area is quiet. The shower is good and everything is clean. The recommendations for dinner were spot on. Loved Jacobs and Kafe Speciale and Opera cafe (for lunch). I do agree that breakfast could be changed up a little but it is high quality and at a time of our choosing. The tariff is very reasonable for Bergen, and location makes walking everywhere possible. Our stay in this beautiful historic district with accommodating and friendly owners has been a pleasure. The ladies are always looking at ways to continually enhance the guest house experience.

Thank you so much for you kind words - and having guests come back to stay with us is the best compliment we can get.

Your comment about the beakfast is absolutely true, and since the last review commenting on it we have made quite a few changes to try and offer more variation, e.g. different fruit salads and a better selection of meats and fish. If you ever come back again you can tell us what you think!

Kind regards,
Yvonne

Positives:
Short walk to shops and restaurants.
Very clean and comfortable.
We stayed in "attic" with one double, 2 singles, and 2 singles in "loft"(mattresses on floor for kids)...we had 3 adults 2 children and plenty of room. Great value.
Great hospitality. Yvonne was lovely and very helpful.

Cons:
VERY HILLY....carrying/dragging luggage up was difficult. Very hard to get a cab.
Stairs to attic room are steep and narrow.
Breakfast was very good but it's the same every morning...lacks variety.

I loved it but my mother and aunt had a hard time with the elevation/steepness.

Thank you very much for your kind words, and for your constructive criticism. We can't do much about the hills - or the steep staircase for that matter - but we can do something about the breakfast, and we will! Thanks again. All the best, Yvonne :)

We returned to Bergen from a Hurtigruten cruise and stayed two nights at the To Sostre Guest House. Beautifully situated in old part of Bergen not far from city centre. Welcomed and looked after by Renate and Yvonne to a very high standard. The whole house was spotlessly clean and we were made to feel extremely welcome. The three of us shared the loft room which was extremely spacious with an excellent ensuite bathroom and adjoining dressing room. Breakfast was made when we wanted it and was of excellent quality and variety. Would recommend this type of accommodation against the much larger hotels.

Room tip: If you want an ensuite room, go for the loft. Can sleep four in one double and two singles.
