We booked to Sostre on the basis of it's earlier TA recommendations and I have to say it really is as good as it's billing.
Our stay is based on two parts. Our flight into Bergen was delayed by 8hrs so we didn't land until 3am. We had been in touch with Yvonne during the afternoon and evening to share our misery of being stuck at Gatwick and without hesitation she was agreeable to receive us at what ever time it was that we arrived. Well that ended up being 4am and during our later texts in the middle of the night she still found the good grace to include a smiley face on her texts. So she was a fantastic host waiting up for us and then adjusting breakfast times to allow us some sleep.
The guest house itself is situated in a typical quiet residential street in the city centre, 5 mins walk from the Hanseatic buildings, funicular and waterfront. It is also a short walk from the last stop that the Airport Bus shuttle (flybussen) stops at. The guesthouse is a wooden building, typical of the houses in the area, full of charactor and charm. The interior is very simple and clean, with stripped floor boards, but the furnishings are very tasteful. I suppose the only problem there might be for the odd guest is that there is a steep set of stairs taking you up to...We booked to Sostre on the basis of it's earlier TA recommendations and I have to say it really is as good as it's billing.

I suppose the only problem there might be for the odd guest is that there is a steep set of stairs taking you up to the first floor. We had the Canopy room which comes with it's own shower room. The bed was sumptous and very comfortable. So we managed a few hours sleep before we had to get up. Breakfast was delicious, yoghurt, fruit, cheese, cold meats and scrambled eggs. Yvonne allowed us to stay in the room longer than she would normally allow before we moved on to catch our Hurtigruten boat.
Overall this is one of the best overnight stops we have had and this would be the only place we would want to stay if we were coming to Bergen again. So I would recommend to Sostre to everyone it really is delightful.More
