I have eaten here multiple times on visits to Bergen and each time not only is the food wonderful but so is the service. I have been seated in nearly the same place each time, near the large windows overlooking the Square, but there isn't a lack of scenery inside either. I think the food is fabulous and while the prices are high, so is every meal in Bergen and the food amount is ENORMOUS! The ambiance makes me feel like I'm in Magnum PI and I expect to see Mafia activity emerging from the back rooms, but I have always received excellent attentive service, great food and outstanding treatment. That's not the normal Norwegian experience! The one thing I would like to see is the ability to buy one of the plates or cups with the group's logo to bring home.

Our party consists of 2 adults, and 2 children ages 2 and 5. The place was nice, if you sit near the window, you got a view of the main square. This is also a great place for kids, as they have a fish pond with kois and turtles in the middle of the restaurant. Sadly, these are the only good things of the restaurant. The service was terrible, the manager was not friendly at all. The food was terrible too. We ordered fried noodle,a nd it came out noodle in gravy sauce doused in soy sauce. The sweet and sour pork wa soggy and too sour. We definitely won't come back again.

My wife and I stopped in the China Palace for dinner. We are both in our 70's and don't eat that big of meals so we wanted to split an entree. The entree we selected cost 145 NOK's. When we said that we wanted to split the entree, we were told there would be a charge of 135 NOK's. The manager confirmed this in a less than pleasant manner. We left!
