“Excellent Value in Norway”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2014

Pre-booked this Hotel. Just looking for a place to rest our heads for 1 night as we moved through Bergen. So pleased with the Hotel. Situation was very good for us, close to all that is going on in the city. Reception staff were so helpful...I struggle to remember an easier and quicker check-in!
Although the room was small, it was better than expected with good quality furnishings. Quiet street, even with window open. Big, Big plus points....free tea and coffee on tap 24 hrs and an exceptionally good range of choice for the included breakfast. First rate stop-over

This is an excellent hotel in Bergen. We walked there from the bus station and it took about 20 mins. We walked right through the main city park and the historic streets full of shops, it was enjoyable and easy with our luggage. The hotel had very friendly service staff. We had prepaid our rooms and got an incredible deal for Bergen--I definitely suggest looking into that option.

The WiFi was excellent. I could place Skype calls or stream music in my room. It was the best WiFi on my two-week trip!

Our breakfast was included, making this hotel an even better value than it already was. The breakfast was excellent, a lot of choices and good, fresh food.

The location is a little ways off the wharf, but it's only a 10-minute walk to the fish market and central area. The walk is beautiful, all the side streets in Bergen are interesting. When you are exploring the area, look for the horse streets nearby, which are narrow and quite steep, but fun little lanes to walk. There is also a Fretex just 100 meters from the hotel. Fretex is Norway's Salvation Army store and you can explore for a different type of souvenir shopping experience that doesn't break your wallet.

I would definitely stay at Comfort Hotel Holberg again, hope I get the chance to return!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the outside, preferably with a view of the water. We had a great view from 408...

On a glorious Easter weekend we arrived in central Bergen, across the road form the bustling fish market.
Not having remembered to find out and save the location of the hotel, we wandered in what we knew was the general direction of the Comfort Hotel.
We ambled at a casual pace, through some pleasant and quiet streets. Shops either side of us filled to the brim with excellent Scandinavia design and cool little cafes.
We arrived at the Comfort Hotel within 10 minutes. Location: Excellent.

Upon checking in we were greeted by a friendly member of staff, she asked if we actually wanted a twin bed room (which we had booked as there were no doubles available).
Magically, she sorted us out a double room, with a bed so comfortable I almost decided to explore Bergen via the free wifi from the confines of my Scandi-Slumber-Chamber.
Although it was 10am and our booking said check in was at 12, the new and improved room was ready and we were putting our bags down within 7 minutes.

Of course, we didn't, but I certainly did consider it.

The room itself was clean and comfortable (as you'd expect from the comfort hotel). It was a basic space, with no space wasted. It didn't have a safe, ironing board or minifridge - the general stuff you have in a room and never use, which is fine, for £50 a night you can't expect the penthouse.
Only on this one occasion having a fridge would have been good, only to chill down a bottle of the excellent Norge Ø Imperial Russian Stout I had picked up at the airport.

After a day of absorbing Bergen, it came time to go back and get some rest for the next day.
A little bit of BBC World service in the background to settle you also provided a soothing glow to the room, and when it was time to disconnect, the room plunged into a still and peaceful abyss, without setting an alarm there wasn't going to be a chance of waking up early the next morning with the blackout curtains insulating us from the bright and beautiful Bergen morning light.

The first morning in the hotel was an early start, so we missed the free breakfast. But a hot and refreshing shower was enough to get us out the door and into the fresh and invigorating morning.

It wasn't until the second day, fjords and mountains now toured we had time to get up at a leisurely hour and roll down to the breakfast. Leisurely was the operative word, with breakfast being served until midday there was no rush, but still plenty of food when we finally got there.
The buffet was filling and comprehensive, plenty of fresh fruit, cured meats and cheeses, fresh salads and the usual boring options (who eats cornflakes on holiday?!) as well as a chef in the kitchen cooking the usual artery clogging foods to order.

I was impressed by the signage encouraging you to be kind to mother earth and not waste water and towels, although they still gave us fresh towels alongside our ones from the day before.

As we were only on the second floor (or Level 3 - they count ground as level 1) we used the stairs as access, my partner did end up getting caught up on the insanely high edges on the stair treads, which were higher than I would preferred. (I work in architecture and have detailed quite a few stairwells.).

Checking out was a breeze, they were kind enough to leave our bag in the luggage room as still had another 6 hours in Bergen.

I'd love to get back to Bergen, and if so, I'd definitely stay again

Room Tip: Be nice to the people at check in. (in fact, be nice to everyone, it helps)

I was very satisfied with the standard of the hotel related to the cost.
The room was good. food was good. Service was good.
Location of the hotel is a bit away from the city senter bus stations.

I was surprised when I walked into this hotel as it felt more like a hostel then a hotel with no real lounge area and the unfriendly staff didn't help but the next morning the staff had changed and we really enjoyed the varied and excellent breakfast in the nicely designed restaurant. Our room was small but we enjoyed the view over the rooftops of some quaint houses. It was also clean and the design was modern. The water only reached lukewarm in the shower but when I asked about it the reception staff said they had never been told this and they did nothing about it. The hotel seemed at first in a more isolated part of the harbor area but is a 5 minute walk to the fish market and great stores, there are also restaurants nearby. Nice that signs encourage drinking regular tap water.

Room Tip: Only the elevator on the left reaches the 7th floor.

Hello ElanaJean.

Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to write a review. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay! However, we sincerely apologize if you found some of our staff to be unfriendly. Customer service is the corner stone of our industry so naturally this is one of our highest priorities. We will look into this with the reception staff.

It is in fact true that we very rarely get complaints about the temperature in our showers, as we recently replaced our water heaters. We will off course have our maintenance crew inspect this immediately.

We wish you a good day and hope to see you again some time!

A great little hotel, ideally situated, only a few minutes walk from Bergen port, central Bergen and the main tourist attractions. And, as always with the Comfort hotels, an incredibly friendly and helpful staff! There's a little terrace on the roof which is quite good during a sunny evening for a quick drink before heading out for the night. Great breakfast also, all the more enjoyable considering the cost of eating out in Norway. The only (small) drawback is that this hotel could do with a little bit of refurbishment and the rooms could do with a bit of a painting! Other than that ... fantastic hotel considering the low cost! Once again ... Comfort hotel chain rules it all!!!

This was a good hotel - nice room, balcony (but most rooms don't have one), great breakfast, clean, friendly staff. All in all very good, and good value for money, especially for Norway. I would stay here again.
