Only spent one night here as part of a tour but the hotel was well located in the centre of Bergen. Rooms are quite small but modern and comfortable. Breakfast buffet was extensive and free tea and coffee 24/7 in the lobby. Would have been nice to have a kettle in the room but a minor drawback. Staff were efficient and friendly and the hotel is only 2 minutes walk from the harbour and shopping centres. Like most of Norway, Bergen is very expensive so we made do with a visit to the supermarket as food and drink prices are sky high. Overall, a nice place to stay for 1 or 2 nights.

We stayed here with our three small/medium children and fairly active in-laws for two nights. I had made a reservation on the choicehotels.com and then double-checked it by email directly with the hotel to make sure we had the right rooms booked for 7 people. When we arrived, at the height of tour-group frenzy, the hotel staff told us that we had only reserved enough room for 6 people, but that all their computer systems were down and so they were unable to see if there was anything available. This was a bit disconcerting, but the staff then took great pains to find us rooms and cots that would suit us all, and to bring the extra beds quickly. The computer problem, which lasted our entire stay, extended to the wireless, which was a bit of a pain, but again, the staff had arranged that we could use the computers in a hotel literally around the corner. Thus, there were problems, but the staff worked hard to accomodate us in spite of them.

The hotel itself was very pleasant. The rooms were very small (especially since they were really too small for all of us), but spotlessly clean, with hip decor and an excellent shower. There was no air conditioning, and we happened to be there on what they told us was the only warm week in Bergen's year - it was cool enough at night with the windows open, although then there was a bit of noise now and then on the street.

I really liked the location. It was not in the tourist center of town, but a few blocks away, through a non-touristy shopping district, just two blocks from the harbor. Thus, it was fairly quiet, and reasonably close to the tourist sites. The one time when the location was a bit of a disadvantage was when we had to walk to the Radisson to take the bus to the airport.

The breakfast was very ample, and served in a pleasant room. I liked the fact that in the elevators they posted the times at which breakfast was most likely to be crowded - not that it helped, since we had to eat at those times too. The fresh bread was particularly nice.

The hotel was expensive (about $275/night/room), but most hotels in Bergen are. I wish that we had planned our trip earlier and been able to reserve space in a bed-and-breakfast, but the Comfort Hotel Holberg, despite being modern and full of tour-groups, somehow seemed more Norwegian than the soul-less Radissons in which we stayed elsewhere.

We booked a room at the Holberg for 2 nights before our Hurtigruten cruise. There were 3 adults in one room which made for a tight squeeze due to the size and shape of the room but I was expecting this as I had read previous reviews. The second bed (for our daughter) was a sofa bed and when extended it could only be climbed over to reach the other side.
The location was in easy walking distance of the centre and Bryggen. We had no complaints, everything was fine with the hotel and it had free internet PCs, coffee and waffles as well.
We even walked with our bags to the Hurtigruten terminal but I would not recomend this as the steep hill and paving made it difficult. We ate in the restaurant one night and the food was OK.
Bergen was a nice place to visit and get the feel of a Norway with the sea and lots of islands.
Good hotel and the price was reasonable (for Norway!)

Stayed one night at the Hotel Holberg during a holiday stay in Bergen. The hotel is a three star and not to expensive for norwegian hotels. The quality of the hotel though is very good and gives very good value for your money. The rooms isn't big, but are newly refurbished so they have good quality. A nice thouch is the flatscreen TV from Sony. The breakfast is also very good, all ecological food and a good variety of choice. Nothing negative to say about the staff either.

All in all i recommend everyone that wants a good value hotel with nice breakfast a stay at the Holberg!

I enjoyed my stay here and it was cheap in comparison to a lot of Bergen. The rooms are small but very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are again small, but very functional. The location is excellent, only a short walk from the centre of Bergen (which is small).

In summary, the hotel is extremely comfortable and worth a stay. They offer free coffee and water throughout your stay and whilst this doesn't seem much, try buying a coffee in Bergen and see how much it costs!!

Overall a good stay and well done the Comfort Hotel.

Holberg is located in central Bergen - near Nykirken, a short (5-10 minute) walk from Torgalmenningen and the Fish Market. The hotel is situated near what will have to be described as the "red light district" of Bergen - but don't let that bother you too much, chances are you won't even notice this.

We had a standard twin / double room. Our room seemed somewhat dated, and it was a bit on the small side - the bathroom is particularly tiny. The sink / mirror is placed in a corner of the main room, instead of in the toilet / shower room (some of the rooms have tiny bathtubs) - and oddly enough, when you switch on the light in the bathroom the light by the sink in the bedroom is *also* turned on - which can be rather annoying at night...:op Our bedroom was clean, but the bathroom could use a good scrub. The maids also forgot to clean our room one morning. (!) The beds were rather narrow, but there was a good-sized work desk, and a table / small sofa.

Amenities included a TV (with a good selection of channels), a trouser press, hair dryer and a minibar.

A nice buffet breakfast is included in most room rates (75 NOK per person if not included, well worth that price). A very good selection of bread, rolls, crispbread and crackers, cold meats and cheese (and some local specialties, such as brunost - brown cheese), cereals, yoghurt, fruit... some hot food (sausages, eggs, beans) is also available. Free coffee and tea available in the reception area all day.

A double room at Hotel Holberg usually costs from ca 650 NOK (not including breakfast).

Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel - the connection is fast and reliable, but you have to get an access code (which only lasts 8 hours) from the reception to get online. There's also a computer available in the reception area.

You'll usually find the best deals on the hotel's own website. We booked through their website, and decided to stay an additional night. We asked the receptionist if we could extend the reservation, and was told that "sure, no problem" - but when we checked out, the rate for the last night had increased from 650 NOK to 900 NOK, and we were told that "internet reservations could not be extended". I was not impressed.
