“Noisy and in need of updating = not a 4* hotel”
Reviewed 31 August 2011

My Husband and I have just got back from our stay at The Radisson Blu Hotel Norge in Bergen. Originally we had booked to stay at the Radisson Royal hotel near the Harbour. However, they forgot to mention that the hotel was having a revamp and that the bar, restaurant and leisure facilities were closed. Nethertheless, they transferred us to the Norge.

The room was average, not 4*. It needed some updating and TLC. We overlooked the fountain outside which was very noisy and on Saturday night we found that we were surrounded by clubs and bars that went on until the early hours. It was continuous and there were lots of people singing merrily outside. If you are going to stay here on a Saturday, request a higher floor!!! The bars were closed on the Sunday and Monday nights of our stay. During the day there was continuous banging from a neighbouring room where maintenance was going on.

The general feel of the hotel is that it is not 4*. The corrdiors are drab and the hotel toilets are disgusting! The reception staff are very slow at answering the phone or coming to the desk.

However, the hotel is in a good location and if you can put up with the noise and the need of a revamp then it might be for you. The spa and swimming pool facilities are nice and there is a beauty treatment room too. The hotel bar is also good. However, customers who stay at the Royal hotel are not allowed to use these facilities while theirs are closed. How ridiculous!!!

I would not recommend this hotel to friends and family as it was one of the more expensive hotels on the Bergen list and I dont think it was worth it. I wont be staying again.

If like me, you wanted a swimming pool, the extra cost of the Radisson is not worth it...go somewhere without one, it will be much nicer!

This hotel is amongst the worst I have ever stayed at. Dirty, worn out, hole in wall where picture was removed, window tiny facing enclosed court yard, window open to enclosed court yard...so no fresh air, room was hot (AC not working) Bath room smelled of raw sewage when you used the sink, hallways were totally beat...disgusting in-fact, Internet was VERY POOR, Very expense for such terrible conditions......GROSS...STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Had Interior room facing enclosed court yard.....Awful....No View........

This hotel is perfectly situated in the center of town - walking distance to everything. But this is also its major drawback. The bars & night life are literally under your pillow. If you can sleep to a bass beat that vibrates your mattress, then this hotel is for you. If not, you'd be better off in a tent at the edge of town. Although the beds are very comfortable, I did not have even one full or restful night's sleep at the Radisson Blu,
The hotel is very expensive, but so is everything in Norway, so you can't expect to get the same amenities in a Norwegian Hotel that you'd get in a US hotel for the same price. (That applies to every hotel in Norway.)
The pool at this hotel is an asset (although it is in the basement with no windows); the "fitness center" is abysmal. It lives in a windowless room about the size of the closet. If I were to come to Bergen again, I would not look into a different hotel.

We stayed at hotel Norge for two nights in August. The hotel has a good atmosphere and retains much of its original design from the sixties. We are frequent travellers and like to stay at hotels with soul. The service was excellent and the staff very helpful. Bergen is a beautiful city and the hotel has a central location. Visiting Bergen again we will stay at hotel Norge !

We were here for two nights at the end of a 2-week tour of Scandinavia, and what a disappointment for our last night. Even though we had a "Business Class" room, which overlooked the park, and our room seemed fairly clean (the beds were comfortable, at least), there was no A/C on the warm nights we were there, and every time we walked down the hall, I felt like I wanted to call a cleaning person. The lobby is dowdy and old looking, and the breakfast buffet was just passable. It was by far not among the best we had on our trip. The coffee wasn't even good.
The only good thing is the location. Right out your front door is the shopping centre of Bergen and in a short, 2-block walk is the historic wharf area. There are a lot of both expensive and inexpensive restaurants nearby.
All in all, I would recommend finding another hotel.
