We stayed here for one night at the end if a trip to Norway. We booked a junior suite and the cost was an astronomical 3745 NOK (around £400 UKP!!). For what is classed as a junior suite the room was small, the only thing that classified it as a suite is that it had a sofa and coffee table. The bathroom was tiny with just a shower, no bath.
As the other Rica hotel we stayed at in Trondheim had room service we had expected this one to have the same facilities but no, in fact, even when we went down and asked about dinner reservations we were told the restaurant was closed and directed to a nearby restaurant which the hotel has a relationship with, thereby meaning we got a 15% discount if we showed the card we were given. The food at this place was nice, and it was very quiet, so despite the initial frustration at the hotel not having a restaurant we enjoyed our meal in the end. We were then somewhat annoyed to return to the hotel to see lots of people dining!! Apparently they only cater for tour parties, other guests get no service whatsoever!!!
The room was hot and stuffy with no air conditioning. Bed was comfortable, usual Norwegian thing of two singles pushed together but we slept well nonetheless. We asked for a quiet room and were given one on the top floor at the end of a corridor and to be fair we heard next to no noise from other guests. Other reviews have commented on traffic noise and lots of street noise but being high up we didn't get this, so my tip if you do stay here is to try and get a room on the top floor, although you will pay royally for it!
Breakfast was an excellent selection, however the chaos of the hundreds of guests jostling and queueing for food meant we ended up having next to nothing. It took a good 15 minutes to get back to the room after the non-event of breakfast because there is only one lift and it was heaving and just kept going up and down before it finally came down to the ground floor and let us get in!
Poor value for money, no service and the heat means that I would not stay here again. Oh yes, and we were given the wrong room on arrival, the key card first wouldn't work at all, then when my husband went down to get it changed we were given a key to a room already occupied, so he had to go down again to get the right one and didn't even receive an apology for the mix up! A bad experience and paid through the nose for it!
