We stayed here for one night at the end if a trip to Norway. We booked a junior suite and the cost was an astronomical 3745 NOK (around £400 UKP!!). For what is classed as a junior suite the room was small, the only thing that classified it as a suite is that it had a sofa and coffee table. The bathroom was tiny with just a shower, no bath.

As the other Rica hotel we stayed at in Trondheim had room service we had expected this one to have the same facilities but no, in fact, even when we went down and asked about dinner reservations we were told the restaurant was closed and directed to a nearby restaurant which the hotel has a relationship with, thereby meaning we got a 15% discount if we showed the card we were given. The food at this place was nice, and it was very quiet, so despite the initial frustration at the hotel not having a restaurant we enjoyed our meal in the end. We were then somewhat annoyed to return to the hotel to see lots of people dining!! Apparently they only cater for tour parties, other guests get no service whatsoever!!!

The room was hot and stuffy with no air conditioning. Bed was comfortable, usual Norwegian thing of two singles pushed together but we slept well nonetheless. We asked for a quiet room and were given one on the top floor at the end of a corridor and to be fair we heard next to no noise from other guests. Other reviews have commented on traffic noise and lots of street noise but being high up we didn't get this, so my tip if you do stay here is to try and get a room on the top floor, although you will pay royally for it!

Breakfast was an excellent selection, however the chaos of the hundreds of guests jostling and queueing for food meant we ended up having next to nothing. It took a good 15 minutes to get back to the room after the non-event of breakfast because there is only one lift and it was heaving and just kept going up and down before it finally came down to the ground floor and let us get in!

Poor value for money, no service and the heat means that I would not stay here again. Oh yes, and we were given the wrong room on arrival, the key card first wouldn't work at all, then when my husband went down to get it changed we were given a key to a room already occupied, so he had to go down again to get the right one and didn't even receive an apology for the mix up! A bad experience and paid through the nose for it!

My wife and I arrived in Bergen by train (Norway in a Nutshell) late on a Friday night and were relieved to find the hotel only a short 5-10 minute walk away. Check-in was flawless. The next morning, we enjoyed the most amazing smorgasbord breakfast. We were surprised when one helpful server addressed us with an American accent. Turns out he was the son of the breakfast chef, spending the summer away from his primary home in Miami His father, the chef, then emerged from the kitchen to greet us. A very funny and gracious man, he is a proud chef with decades of experience running restaurants both in the U.S. and Norway. My favorite line of his: "My American son lives in Norway and my Norwegian son lives in the States! Go figure."

Stayed in a Clarion (Oslo, Bastion), Radisson (Oslo, Scandanavian) and Rica this holiday. The breakfast was by far the best in the Rica. Quality food and nice attention to detail e.g different energising hand blended juices. Location was very central, although Bergen was fairly easy to walk around. It's a beautiful city. Room was on the small side, but spotless. Checkout is 12pm. Staff helpful, we were late checking out as one of our cases had died. Samsonite replacements obtained... Hotel disposed of our old cases and didn't moan about the late checkout. Would stay here again.

I stayed four days in this well-located hotel on business. Unfortunately, I got a rather small room in the second floor, just at the corner of Christies gate and Lars Hilles gate (Foreningsgaten), both streets, with three lanes each, suffering from heavy traffic. Although the room was provided with noise-reducing windows, the beep-beep of the traffic lights just below the windows as well as the sound of motor-cycles, trucks and buses was really annoying. For close to US $ 300 per night I would have expected a slightly better, quiet room, even in expensive Norway. Anyway, I had a pleasant stay thanks to the friendly personnel, the excellent breakfast and the complimentary high-speed (400 kB/sec) internet access.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at a higher floor, avoid corner rooms.

Rica Hotel is nicely situated for the travelling visitor. The staff is friendly and helpful, breakfast buffet well-sorted. Rooms are a bit small and noise form the street is quite disturbing, but all in all the overall impression is positive

Room Tip: If possible, away from the street

We were really pleased with our room on the 6th floor as it was light, airy and not as small as we were dreading from reading some other reviews. The breakfast was first rate, the staff were all very helpful and the location is great. However, there's no air con and the room was very warm at night, we initially thought we could leave the window open but that just wasn't possible due to the horrendous amount of noise from a nightclub across the road and people shouting outside. It's a real shame but after four nights of poor sleep we probably won't use this hotel again.

Spent five nights here. Paid a little extra for the room with a view. The "view" was marginal, but it was still Bergen, and what's not to like about that? Definitely better than the lower rooms that just looked out into the courtyard. The breakfast is really quite good (at least in terms of quantity and selection), but get there early as the tables fill up quickly. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located to the train station, bus terminal and fish market. Wireless internet was as advertised: free and fast. Room was clean and comfortable. Nothing in Bergen is cheap, so just get over the sticker shock. Especially if you are an American traveling in Bergen (as we were), remember that prices INCLUDE tax and fees (which is 25%!) before you start comparing prices to New York City or something like that. Overall, delivery as promised.

Room Tip: All rooms on the seventh (top) floor have a city view.
