“Good mid range hotel, convenient location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2012

We stayed two nights in August. Very good location for getting off at train station and walking to hotel. The hotel is not in old part of town, so loses some of the atmosphere but is a short walking distance to old part of city and main sights. Rooms are very small, but cosy. Only draw back was our room on 2nd floor had an noisy conditioner outside of it - which meant we couldn't open it for fresh air. Rooms are also very hot. Great breakfast, one of the best on our travels.

Room Tip: Make sure you check that your room is not outside an air conditioner unit

The Rica Bergen is a solid, standard hotel. It has wooden floors, a comfortable bed, and is clean. Even though I had a single room, the bathroom was still a reasonable size and it was well-suited for a solo traveler. The staff was very courteous and helpful and the breakfsast was great, with a variety of choices, too include mango, raspberry, or berry smoothies! The hotel was a short walk (10 minutes or less) from all the major sights in town. I had just come off Norway in a Nutshell and only had to ask one person at the train station how to get to it to find it. I would definitely stay here again if in Bergen.

Room Tip: The train station does not have any maps available, so either map out your route beforehand or prepa...

Recently stayed here on our honeymoon. The room was incredibly small and the in room fixtures seemed really dated. For a price north of $225 per night, I was expecting something much nicer, instead the room seemed like a Howard Johnsons from the early 80s. We were so disappointed we cut our visit short by a day.

As others have said, the lobby is nicely updated and the breakfast buffet is fantastic.

I usually stay here on my business trips. The hotel is well run, and the staff friendly, and prices not too crazy. But the 'it' factor is the breafast, which really is something else. On the minus side: the rooms tend to be too warm, and the air might be a little stuffy

Fabulous brunch, great location within walking distance of harbor, shopping, bus, train! Room small but very comfortable. Helpful staff. Loved the mini-smoothies! There is so much to do in this beautiful city.

We stayed here for one night at the end if a trip to Norway. We booked a junior suite and the cost was an astronomical 3745 NOK (around £400 UKP!!). For what is classed as a junior suite the room was small, the only thing that classified it as a suite is that it had a sofa and coffee table. The bathroom was tiny with just a shower, no bath.

As the other Rica hotel we stayed at in Trondheim had room service we had expected this one to have the same facilities but no, in fact, even when we went down and asked about dinner reservations we were told the restaurant was closed and directed to a nearby restaurant which the hotel has a relationship with, thereby meaning we got a 15% discount if we showed the card we were given. The food at this place was nice, and it was very quiet, so despite the initial frustration at the hotel not having a restaurant we enjoyed our meal in the end. We were then somewhat annoyed to return to the hotel to see lots of people dining!! Apparently they only cater for tour parties, other guests get no service whatsoever!!!

The room was hot and stuffy with no air conditioning. Bed was comfortable, usual Norwegian thing of two singles pushed together but we slept well nonetheless. We asked for a quiet room and were given one on the top floor at the end of a corridor and to be fair we heard next to no noise from other guests. Other reviews have commented on traffic noise and lots of street noise but being high up we didn't get this, so my tip if you do stay here is to try and get a room on the top floor, although you will pay royally for it!

Breakfast was an excellent selection, however the chaos of the hundreds of guests jostling and queueing for food meant we ended up having next to nothing. It took a good 15 minutes to get back to the room after the non-event of breakfast because there is only one lift and it was heaving and just kept going up and down before it finally came down to the ground floor and let us get in!

Poor value for money, no service and the heat means that I would not stay here again. Oh yes, and we were given the wrong room on arrival, the key card first wouldn't work at all, then when my husband went down to get it changed we were given a key to a room already occupied, so he had to go down again to get the right one and didn't even receive an apology for the mix up! A bad experience and paid through the nose for it!

My wife and I arrived in Bergen by train (Norway in a Nutshell) late on a Friday night and were relieved to find the hotel only a short 5-10 minute walk away. Check-in was flawless. The next morning, we enjoyed the most amazing smorgasbord breakfast. We were surprised when one helpful server addressed us with an American accent. Turns out he was the son of the breakfast chef, spending the summer away from his primary home in Miami His father, the chef, then emerged from the kitchen to greet us. A very funny and gracious man, he is a proud chef with decades of experience running restaurants both in the U.S. and Norway. My favorite line of his: "My American son lives in Norway and my Norwegian son lives in the States! Go figure."
