I didn't think the hotel was 4 stars as advertised. I had a tiny single room with and old bathroom with some cheap shower curtains. The service was average; the staff didn't have any information on tours & things to do. I was advised to visit the tourist centre for information. No restaurants, bars or cafes in the hotel, however breakfast was good. But it ended at 10 am sharp which is quite common in scandinavia. Poor quality toiletteries. Ladies, bring your own shampoos, moisturizers etc. Close to the train station which is one positive. Terrible views, my room was facing an office building & the workers' desks were facing my room.

We just stayed at the Rica Hotel Bergen. We were traveling by train and this hotel is located within walking distance to Central station. It is also within walking distance to all attractions including the fish market and bryggen. The rooms are small but we knew this in advance so it didn't bother us. The room was very clean and in good shape. Bathroom also clean and very new looking. The lobby and restaurant area are modern. We had a room that gave on to an interior court yard with a rotten view but very quiet. Never had any trouble sleeping at night (room 224). Staff is very nice. Wifi works good. The best thing of all about this hotel is the breakfast. It has all you can ask for, great choice including a good variety of fresh fruit, meats, eggs, breads... They have free coffee and tea in the lobby at all times which is nice considering the cost of everything in this city.

Room Tip: Eat a good breakfast and avoid spending for lunch.

One thing you can't get away from in Bergen is the price and this hotel was certainly no exception. That said, it was fine for what it was and in a good central location. The room was small but had everything you needed. The bathroom was small but really nice and very clean. The view out of the window was other peoples rooms opposite you and that felt a little overlooked. It would have been nice to see a bit more than concrete! However the breakfast is something completely different. There is such a huge choice and the standard is excellent. It filled me up for most of the day, so I saved some money on lunches! Also as a lone traveller I felt very comfortable there and that was very important to me on this visit, so I was happy with it overall.

On the plus side: The hotel is located in the midst of Bergen within walking distance to most attractions. Also, the breakfast is good, with great variety and good quality.
Omn the mediocre side: The rooms, although a bit on the small side are ok, and the beds are soft and comfortable. The hotel is somewhat dated, and could do with a make over.
On the down side: Noise! The noise from our room on the third floor was unbearable. On the second night of our weekend stay we had to ask for ear plugs to be able to get a few hours of sleep. The windows are poorly isolated, and even the beeping sound from the pedestrian crossing outside was annoying. Also the aircon was not functioning well, resulting in two nights of bad sleep. Bearing in mind the high price level of the hotel, I would definitely choose somewhere else to stay in Bergen!

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the roads outside as the windows are poorly isolated generating a lot of noise.

This hotel charge a lot and yet the room is tiny. Everything seems okay but very dated. I'm not a tall person but still find the room claustrophobic. Struggling to find a space to open my suitcase. The room is quiet because it's facing a wall! I just can't see how it can justify the charge.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get the room number ends 14 or 15 (e.g. 515)

This was a weekend trip and so we only needed to stay for a night. We were glad to choose Rica Travel Hostel since the bed was really comfortable (even if the room was a little small if you need to carry large baggage - which was not the case) and the breakfast was absolutely great.
Everything in Norway is extremely expensive so, be aware of that when you choose Norway to travel. Even though this was one of the cheapest and nicer hotel that we found. The location is also excellent.
I would chose this hotel again, without any doubt.

Room Tip: great breakfast and location.

We stayed two nights in August. Very good location for getting off at train station and walking to hotel. The hotel is not in old part of town, so loses some of the atmosphere but is a short walking distance to old part of city and main sights. Rooms are very small, but cosy. Only draw back was our room on 2nd floor had an noisy conditioner outside of it - which meant we couldn't open it for fresh air. Rooms are also very hot. Great breakfast, one of the best on our travels.

Room Tip: Make sure you check that your room is not outside an air conditioner unit
