Klosterhagen hotel is a lovely place to stay. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The breakfast was excellent with lovely home-made breads. There is a small lounge and you can make waffles in the evening (ingredients supplied). Friendly and helpful staff. A good place to stay before setting out on the Hurtigruten ship although it's worth noting that it is up a steep hill..

I stayed at the Klosterhagen Hotell for 2 nights during my trip to Bergen. It was a short walk from the bus stop (about 5-10 minutes up a hill), located in a quiet neighborhood that is still close to all attractions. The staff was very friendly. Our room had 2 beds which was a major plus since I was traveling with my sister and we could each have our own bed. The heated floors in the bathroom were amazing! The breakfast was also quite good for a hotel breakfast buffet, and I was happy it started at 6AM so we had time to eat before our fjord train tour. This is NOT an American breakfast so as long as you are aware that it will be local dishes, you will be happy with what is served! I loved all the different cheeses and jams, and the make your own yogurt bar. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are traveling to Bergen!

The hotel is located on the hill that is all marked by the 'kloster', i.e. monastery. It's a good option if you're in Bergen for a few days and aren't particularly picky.

The rooms are simple, many seem to be in the attic, where the best part of it is the bathroom. The floors are old and squeaky, but I was the top floor, so no idea how the person beneath me liked the fact. The wardrobe was small, probably suggesting the stays should be short. The hotel has no lift, so if you have problems with the narrow stairs, don't do Klosterhagen.

The best part was breakfast - the choice wasn't all that rich, but the items seemed very fresh and natural. The DIY muesli was one of the best I've had ever and there were a few nice surprises at the breakfast table.

The staff are multitasking in this small place, but they are very pleasant and friendly. Generally, the hotel was a good experience, but assuming you won't be spending too much time inside.

Following a previous post we decided to overnight here prior to joining the HURTIGRUTEN ship the following afternoon. Having got the bus from the airport (you can pay by card on board which was great)we should have got off at the Fish market but even so it is quite a steep uphill trek toting luggage.
The hotel was spotless and friendly and even with lift our bags were taken up to our room for us. The room on the 1st floor was small, very quiet but the bed really comfortable with a very spacious shower room complete with toiletries. There is a private courtyard and small lounge, and wifi available which was best in the breakfast room.
We enjoyed a very good buffet breakfast - cheese, cold meats, cereals, fruit, homemade bread and jams etc.
Distancewise it is a pleasant walk to the old harbour and Bryggen area with plenty of shops bars and restaurants to enjoy.
I would definitely recommend for a short stay but not if you have walking difficulties.

Hi!
Thanks for this great feedback!
There is now in the summer season, a hop on hop bus, that has a stop right outside the hotel, so it good for those who have problems walking.
Hope to see you again in Bergen and Klosterhagen Hotell.

We spent two nights here before boarding the Hurtigruten Ferry, which was just a 10 minute walk, downhill. A lovely situation, such friendly staff, but it seemed very understaffed the two days we spent there. There was only one girl and it seemed she was doing everything! But everything we asked for was no problem; she even took our wet clothes somewhere to dry so we did not have to keep them in our room. The free waffles, tea and coffee were very welcome on the wet days. Rooms small, but adequate. However, the absence of a lift could cause problems if you have a lot of luggage and you're on the 3rd floor. Good substantial breakfast.

Room Tip: We had booked a twin room, were offered a double room, so eventually got a family room on the 3rd fl...

The Klosterhagen Hotel was a great find in Bergen. The location was close to the action but far enough away to be peaceful. Parking was a reasonable rate. The breakfast was beautiful. Very fresh and a lot of choices. All made in house. The rooms were small but just the right size - this is after all not a place whee you spend much time in a hotel room. Staff very accommodating.

Have stayed at the hotel several times for business. Great place with a superb location in the middle the older part of Bergen. Rooms a a bit small but enough. The breakfast is so far beyond any standard hotel breakfast. Home made products and fresh an wonderful bread. The atmosphere at the hotel is relaxing.
