“Good enough”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2011

I stayed here with my husband for a long weekend at the end of June. We arrived after midnight but did not experiance any problems with check-in. Room was good, I think it was a deluxe room. Furnishing was modern and I loved the reclining leather chairs with footstool. There was a mini bar fixed on the wall, not very efficient at keeping things cold. Bath room was OK but the supplied toiletries consisted of liquid soap near the hand basin and body wash/shampoo in the shower. There was tea and coffee making facilities and also an iron and ironing board. Problems with the room, no drawers or shelves, only hanging space for clothes. Room hot because there was no control over the radiator, window didn't open either. We were supplied with a fan which we used for most of the timw we were in the room. Breakfast was quite good, certainly enough to give you a good start to the day. Position was good, a few minutes from the Fish Market but away from the crowds. Hotel was pretty good value for Bergen and we would probably stay there again. They just need to sort out the temperature control in the room.

Had booked room at this hotel at bestwestern.com a couple of weeks ago.

At checkin 7 pm, receptionist claimed that it was overbooked. I was offered alternative accomodation at different BW hotel more out of downtown. I rejected the offer referring to valid booking and we discussed back and forth. After referring to my GCC Platinum status, hotel had a room for me afterall.

Extremely unprofessional - I have never experienced this anyware in the world ever !!!

Room however was in good condition and modern.

Did not like that windows were not possible to open as it was very warm.

Free WIFI was excellent having very good speed and being stable.

Breakfast being somewhat below average in Norway at this kind of hotels.

Checkout was fast and did receive apologize for the "issue" at checkin.

I would not recommend anyone to stay at this hotel as you cannot really tell you will actually be able to checkin ! Better to stay away and go for other nearby options.

Hotel well situated nearby the main sights. Bergen is absolutely worth a visit. Hotel unfortunately not very good. Roomtemperature hot on a summers day, as no window could be opened. Room small. Everything in the hotel is on the small side. Breakfast area not worthy of a hotel of this level. Small, crowded, not very cosy.
Facilities in the room not worth mentioning

We had booked the Augustin next door but had to be moved here on arrival due to "leaking rooms". Both these hotels are on a quiet side street adjacent to one of the main shopping streets in Bergen and convenient for the central sights. This was my first Best Western in Scandinavia but I stay in them quite a lot in the UK and know that the brand is no guarantee of quality. Overall, I'd say that this is a fairly average Best Western and it wouldn't be my choice if ever we returned to Bergen.

We had a decent sized room on the fifth floor with a sofa, easy chair, desk and a large flat screen TV. It was Kr4.50 for 24 hours for wifi although you could have connected a laptop by cable for free. No aircon in the room (still being fitted apparently) but there was an aircon controller on the wall that did nothing to control the noisy fan that blew all night and disturbed my sleep. There was a bizarre wall-mounted fridge with sliding cover.

The bed was comfortable but the pillows were a bit on the thin side and not of very good quality. In fact, none of the furniture was particulary good quality and the room screamed "budget hotel"! The buffet breakfast was OK and had a good selection of fish and different types of bread. There was nothing to cover the bread with though so it was unhygenic with other guests grasping the loaves when slicing them.

We'd booked The Augustin on a discounted rate with the Fjord Pass and were obviously charged the same price. In comparison with other hotels we stayed at in Norway, it wasn't bad value for money.

We didn't expect much but they surprised us. We got a really good web-deal and to be honest we didn't think much of the hotel other than it should be clean and safe. When we arrived we were really happy to notice that we got a good size room on the 5th floor in a corner. That meant we had view in two directions. The room was nice and clean really comfortable beads that i slept good in. However lousy curtains that let in all the lights so we had to put up blankets and pillows to keep the light out. When i asked for help in the reception all she could help us with was some white sheets to put up in front of the windows.

As my fiance had his 30th birthday i had ordered up breakfast to the room. I told the staff that he was a vegetarian. This must have gone by unnoticed because the plate came up with bacon, eggs a lot of ham that was al over the cheese and vegetables. That annoyed me a bit.

The location is great. Really close to the harbour and all the sights you wanna go see. The breakfast buffe was nothing special but all you need to get full. The staff in the restaurant Kaffistova was wonderful and always playing with our son.

All in all a really good middle class hotel. However could some of the staff need to go to charm school. One morning i went by the reception and said hello i didn't get an answer. Horrible for staff working in this business. As well poor information about the sightseeings and tourist attractions. Have to praise Marian though who worked in the reception. Wonderful person who did her best to make our stay as well as it got!!

If you wanna stay at a good priced hotel, with good quality in food and rooms and a center location you should really stay here.

Hotel is well sited just off the modern centre of Bergen towards the Nordnes peninsular with its park and old houses. Rather gloomy exterior - c.1900 building.

Friendly reception staff. Free use of internet-connected MAC terminal. Signs displaying the charges for smoking in or vandalising the rooms...

My standard single room was small and felt bleak: after an entrance area (small built-in wardrobe (clothes rail such that clothes hang behind not beside each other) and door to shower room), the main part of the room had a narrow single bed on one side with a small table at the end, TV, table, armchair on the other, gangway between. TV with English language channels: BBCWS, Discovery and Animal Planet (and Russia Today). Also a range of pay services. Curtains kept out much but not all the light. Fridge (unstocked). Narrowness of the bed and lumpiness of the mattress meant that I did not sleep well. The shower room was cramped with poor ventilation. Liquid soap/shower gel only. The website photos are all of renovated rooms, of course.

Breakfast was a reasonable buffet, good if you eat meat and fish. Breakfast room was large and bright but somehow cheerless. NOK 55 charge for taking food out of the breakfast room.

I thought it expensive for a cramped room &c, the different hotel in my one previous visit to Bergen was no better, and reading others' comments it does not look as though Bergen offers particularly good value for money, especially for single travellers.
