Scandic Bergen City
Ranked #34 of 49 Hotels in Bergen

The hotel is very well located, only a 7 or 8 minute walk from the airport bus stop (get off at Festplassen) and a similar distance from the city centre and harbourside (fishmarket, Bryggen etc.). The actual location is a quiet street so no noisy revellers at night.
Rooms and bathrooms are exactly what you would expect from a Scandic, smart, clean and comfortable without being overly lavish. Bed was extremely comfortable and bathroom spotless.
Breakfast is plentiful and varied but a bit disappointing in the variety of the cooked section - limited to scrambled eggs, mini-frankfurters, baked beans and new potatoes (???).
The public area is a bit drab and lifeless but, at the end of the day, you only pass through this space to get somewhere else. The hotel has a bar and restaurant which we didn't use but appeared to be very reasonably priced.
We booked for 2 nights on a discounted advanced booking deal direct with Scandic and got a decent price. All in all we enjoyed our stay and had nothing at all to complain about.

This is not one of Bergen´s best hotels. Its very centrally located in two buildings across the street from each other, with what appears to be very different standards from room to room. Stayed in the "one across the street", 1980´ies elavator and corridor, large room with furniture from different decades, new wooden floor, slightly dated and spartan but clean bathroom. Wellfunctioning and free WiFi. No kettle as I could find, but I also had some trouble finding the minibar hidden in the side-room so there could have been one for all I know. No air-con which would have been a problem in warmer weather with a street facing room (not much traffic but still too much noise to keep the windows open). Staff friendly but not very helpful with practical details. Surprisingly decent breakfast given the small breakfast room. Standard is not poor and would be quite alright for a low-cost budget hotel, however given the prices of Bergen hotels in the spring it is clealy substandard to what you will have to pay for it.

Room Tip: I think those giving this hotel good reviews have stayed in the main building...

Thank you for your review!

We do understand that it may be inconvenient with a hotel room located on the other side of the street, but this is the only way we are able to offer such a high number of rooms in the city centre. In 2013 we renovated a large number of our rooms. The one you stayed in is unfortunately not among them. In fall 2014 we will start renovating the remaining rooms, and step by step, we will be able to offer the same standard throughout the entire hotel.

We are glad to hear that you enjoyd our breakfast.

Welcome back to Scandic Bergen City!

The hotel is very nice, good service, beds are good, rooms clean. The breakfast is very, very nice with lots of choices both warm and cold dishes. Freshly baked breads etc. But for this price one should expect at least this standard. Conference facilities very good also

The hotel is very well located, it is within walking distance of the downtown. Although the building looks a little old inside, the room was surprisingly comfortable, everything very clean and in good condition. The breakfast was great, a buffet with a lot of variety and well tasting.
Perhaps the best part was the staff; they are extremely helpful and friendly. The lady at the bar joined my friends and I in conversation when she heard us talking spanish, and in no time we were talking about her trip to Mexico and other travels. Mariel, the lady at the front desk was very nice as well, provided me with all the information of the city I requested always with a smile, which was a relief because I was treated exactly the opposite while in Denmark.
If you are going to Bergen (which you should, lovely city), you should consider going to this hotel. I know I will be back!

Got a room on 6th floor in the building across the street from reception. I would encourage the hotel management to take a walk through the corridors there and see if they are able to enjoy the experience. The corridor is carpeted, extremely stuffy, dusty and the smell is a not overly pleasant mix of mould, wet dog, cigarette smoke and dead rat in the wall. Being an asthmatic, this is not a healthy place to spend time.

Adding to this: Generally worn-down room. Extremely noisy and poorly noise-isolated. Dirty, rusty and unsanitary water kettle that was not replaced upon request. Old, worn furniture and a chair full of crumbles from the last occupant.

No idea how the breakfast was, after the corridor walks my apetite was gone.

On the plus side? Well, the hotel has the nerve to call the room "Superior" and charge 2200NKR per night, 7-800 more than usual in Bergen. I guess for Scandic, having the nerve is a plus...

I travel for a living and spend more time in hotels in Bergen than in my own flat, but I will not be returning to Scandic Bergen City.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else!

Good Location, easy walk to everywhere. Very clean, bed a bit creaky. Breakfast very good, including hot food. Nice staff. It was Independence Day but we weren't bothered by any noise because we were at the back.

Room Tip: Back room probably best.
