The hotel was excellently located in the centre of Bergen. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the street. With the aid of ear plugs and eyemasks we had a good night’s sleep although were awakened early by the emptying of the bins. We heard that some guests were disturbed by the noise of youngsters outside the MacDonald’s that was below the hotel on the corner adjacent to the main street but we heard nothing of that. There was also a resident beggar just outside the hotel. The breakfast was fine the usual tasty selection although it was served in the restaurant used for evening meals and was not really suitable being a bit cramped with tables hidden in alcoves etc.

Room Tip: on front away from McDonalds

The hotel is in the heart of Bergen city centre, location couldn't be better. Other positive things were the very helpful staff and the cleanliness both in rooms and public areas. But when entering the room I was very surprised. The room was really tiny (I had a single room, double rooms may be much better). There were no place but the floor to put my luggage, but then I had to be very careful not to stumble over it on my way out of bed. The (single) bed was small and the pillow very hard. There is no electric kettle in the room to make a cup of tea or coffee. The room had a small balcony, though, where I guess it will be very pleasant to spend the afternoon on a warm summer day. Breakfast is ok, but rather modest. If you want a cappuccino or espresso, you pay extra. We booked very early and got a fair price, but regular prices are rather high taking the standard into consideration. This hotel is fine for those more concerned about location than comfort, but I will choose another one the next time.

This is a nice, well-run hotel in the dead centre of Bergen. Everything is neat and clean, staff friendly, breakfast yummy (huge selection). Only downside is the somewhat high price (well, it is Norway after all!) and that rooms facing the pedestrian street can be noisy at night.

Otherwise absolutely nothing negative to say. We were a group staying there for the second year in a row and we had some very specific needs (breakfast at 05:15, lounge needs, etc) and they were all full-filled.

Room Tip: Weekends can be noisy outside; especially if there's a festival going on. You can ask for a room facing the back.

Room:
Nicely sized room with nicely sized bathroom. My room was located towards street, and if you want to sleep with the window open, as I do, be sure to have earplugs with you. The main meeting place for people going out is just outside your window. The first nights I was a bit bothered with the smell in the room. It smelled as if I was sleeping in the Mc Donalds frying pan... but after a few nights it passed, as I closed down the ventilation coming into my room.

Breakfast:
Breakfast is excellent. It has a variety of choices, wether you want bread, cereals or a hot plate. Coffee is excellent, and you have a variety of different blends of tea to choose from if that is your preference. It is served from the restaurant Egon, since the hotel itself doesn't have a dining room. The service is wonderful both from reception and from breakfast personnel.

Location:
As central as you can be in Bergen...! 7 min walk to the central train station, 5 min walk to Bryggen, 5 min walk to the lift going to Fløyen, or if you want to walk up there yourself, its a bit strenuous, but worth it! Just follow the walking path and its signs and be sure to go all the way to the top! Theres a sweet treat waiting for you at the restaurant with its glorious view.

Coudnt have chosen a better located hotel than this for our 2 night stay in Bergen. We just walked to our hotel from the pier after alighting from our boat from Flam and Balestrand through a mainly pedestrian street. We were minutes away from the fish market and a little longer and very pleasant stroll took us to the the historic old town on the the side of the harbour. The convenient airport bus stop was just 5 minutes walk away. Plenty of shops and restaurants around, although I’d recommend eating only at the various stalls at the fish market and other seafood restaurants in the port area . However, when it got too cold and windy one night for us to eat at the open-air pier, we dined at the Egon restaurant in the hotel itself (where our buffet breakfasts were served) and had a delightful meal, so that’s an option I would also recommend.

The hotel itself is mid-priced and standard. The rooms are on the smaller side, so we upgraded to a slightly bigger room at the back (a bit noisy as it overlooked the back of restaurants where staff would come out to smoke and chat or the garbage would be collected in the mornings), but the bathroom was as tiny as in the previous room. Tea and coffee are freely available 24/7 at reception (but we had it also in our room at the upgraded price) as is free wifi.
