“Nice hotel in an expensive city”
Reviewed 24 September 2012

Let me preface this by saying we wanted to stay at the Clarion Admiral where we had stayed previously, but there were not enough rooms available for my group. The Augustin was well reviewed so we picked that as an alternative. The hotel is very nice and the staff quite accomodating, however....

I was supposed to share a room with my brother who is also on the trip. We had selected this option primarily because of the cost of the rooms in Bergen. When we got to the room however, the two twin beds actually ended up being two singles that were side by side - touching. I've actually seend massage tables that are wider than these beds - they were tiny. As a result I ended up getting a separate room and incurring the extra cost just to make sure to get a good nights sleep.

The rooms are clean and well appointment if a little small as they are in much of europe. The bathroom is clean and large enough for 1. The only climate control in the room is an dial for the electric radiators, not uncommon in a country that is generally not more than 80 degrees F in the summer. My room however when I opened the door was about 85 degrees and I've had to leave the windows open for a couple of hours to cool down the room. I'm guessing someone bumped the dial and accidentally turned up the heat.

The bed for being in the land of "hard beds and big breakfasts" is suprizingly comfortable. It's not as luxurious as the Admiral, but it's not a bad hotel and it's just down the street.

Room Tip: The beds are very small, if you have people travelling together that are just sharing a room, they m...

Nice Hotel, very friendly staff and excellent restaurant. Very flexible and efficient front desk and the sitting area with complementary coffie was an excellent idea.
The restaurant is very nice too and the food is very good.
Many tourist at the hotel however the business traveller is well catered too.

Room Tip: Try and get yourselfs in the top floow rooms as they appear to be the quietest and largest.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff was really friendly and as my smart phone wasn't working it was really nice to have free and easy access to a computer and internet in the lobby. The location was perfect for sightseeing especially in the historic old town and we had the best salmon ever in the wine bar restaurant. We would definitely stay here again.

This hotel's location is perfect! it's just down the street from the harbor and the Fish Market, and across the way from the historic UNESCO World Heritage site at Bryggen. It's also just a few blocks from the main shopping district.

When we arrived at 9:30PM, to check in, and went to our room, we found that there was only sleeping space for 2, instead of 3 as we'd requested. The front desk person was very accommodating, and, despite being the only one on duty, found us a roll-away bed, some sheets and extra towels, and brought them to our room. The room was large enough for the extra bed, which was great, and we had a good night's sleep.

The hotel has free coffee and tea all day in the front lounge, which is very nice, and particularly appreciated because of the Bergen weather. The breakfast was very good -- a wide selection of items, and the breakfast room was pleasant -- there was plenty of room for everyone.

This was a mid-priced hotel in Bergen -- Bergen hotel prices are very high compared to most other places I've traveled. But it's a lovely town, and worth it to stay and enjoy the town and scenery for a few days.

If you visit, bring your umbrella and raingear and boots. (The hotel offered umbrellas in the room, which was great.) Our hosts said that May and August are the best times of the year to visit Bergen -- they said it's more rainy in June and July.

Room Tip: Our room looked out on the side street. Lots of sun poured in during the day. This side of town is q...

This little hotel, right by the harbor, was a former home of a music and art lover. Although the lobby area is a bit unpleasant, and the elevators are small, the hotel compensates with beautiful original art on the walls and a charming subterranean restaurant.

The hotel i in a central position, close to the "fish market". Room was clean but a little bit too small. Staff friendly, breakfast ok with a wide variety of choices. Wireless conection working fine in my room but if you do not have any computer with you there are 2 public pc in the hall for free. The price is in the range for norwegian standards and Bergen. A good choice for visiting the city and Bryggen UNESCO world heritage centre.

My fiancee, parents and I just returned from Bergen this weekend and stayed in the Augustin Hotel the last night. The hotel staff was very accommodating and helpful, answering endless questions we had about our stay and getting around Bergen. Considering Bergen is not very big, it's easy to make your way around. Especially since the hotel is in such a convenient location; about a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel is the fish market, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel also offers parking across the street. However, you must reserve your parking place ahead of time by emailing or calling the reception. There is also a fee of 100 NOK/day to park in their lot. If you do not have a car and are relying on public transportation to bring you to the hotel, you can take the smaller airport bus which stops right in front of the hotel or the larger airport bus that picks up/drops off near the fish market. I believe both busses cost 100 NOK each way, but you might want to check on that to be sure. As far as the hotel rooms, we ended up getting room 222, which is in the corner of the building. It was large with a queen bed, couch, and little coffee table. The bathroom was a good size and was clean. The only thing to complain about was the a/c wasn't really working that well. Although, typically people don't need to use a/c in Bergen, we just happened to be there when it was unexpectedly warm. But, we were able to open the window to let fresh air in and with the window open it was still quiet over night since the room was facing a side street. My parents room had some plumbing issues. After a shower, the floor was flooded with water. They're a/c also had some slight issues. The continental breakfast was excellent with lots of options (even potato salad!). Overall, Augustin was a nice place to stay!
