Augustin Hotel
Ranked #17 of 49 Hotels in Bergen
Reviewed 31 July 2013

I first was a guest in this hotel in April 2010 and returned again in July 2013. Possibly it is the time of year that made this recent visit very different from my first. The room we had was fine and the bathroom was very nice but the hotel was packed with tour groups and the common areas were jammed. On my first stay at the Augustin the sitting room adjacent to the lobby offered coffee, tea, fresh fruit and warm waffles in the afternoon (guests prepared their own). It is easy to understand how that was not possible at this time of year. I'm sure the offerings would have been grabbed up within minutes of being set out because that is exactly what happened at breakfast. The staff could not stay ahead of guests filling their plates and then their pockets with all the food they could possibly carry and then boarding the busses for wherever. It was like watching a school of Piranha.
This is really a charming property and the wine bar and dinner restaurant are very unique. I can certainly understand the concept of keeping the hotel as full as possible. Perhaps it is unfair to judge the hotel by rude, greedy guests. I enjoyed it so much in the past. I will give it another try someday, but not during the summer season.

We stayed here two nights and were very pleased. We had returned our rental car upon arrival in Bergen and didn't have to pay to park. The sitting area is very nice as was the staff. Although we didn't use the historical bar area, we took pictures and it was very pretty. Our room was nice and the bathroom very clean. The shower area was bizarre in that the shower area was flat on the floor which is common in Europe. The drain wasn't installed to drain the water properly and the water spread all over the floor. The breakfast was okay. It was very crowded and the layout doesn't really accommodate for croweds. The original artwork in the lobby and sitting area is beautiful. This hotel is about a 3 block walk from the fish market and the Bergen Harbor.

We stayed here for a couple of nights. We had a triple room as a family and it was a corner room with balcony. Very large and the cot was great for our little one. Only issue was the building site next door and the noise from the road but it only really bothered my other half. Bathroom okay and room was clean. Very limited storage though. Breakfast very good and staff helpful for warm milk for my son. Free coffee in lobby. God location 5 mins from fish market

te room is o.k. you have bath in your room, wich is not commom in this part of the world. i would rate this hotel 7.5 from 10. cost 950 nok (1000 nok- $170 or 127 euro).big plus is that the parking includ in the price. its not far from the fishrmen market, but not much pub or places to very close to the hotel.
in breakfast time the place is full and long line for table and to the self service food.

We stayed at the Augustin hotel as part of our 'Norway in a Nutshell' tour. It was conveniently situated 15 minutes walk from the railway station and very close to the waterfront and tourist area.

The room was comfortable and large enough.

Breakfast was perfectly acceptable and adequate. The price was reasonable for Norway and Bergen

We recently stayed on the Augustin Hotel for two nights while on a side trip to Bergen. The location of the hotel is great - just a couple of short blocks from the fish market and several great restaurant choices within walking distance. Booking was easy and the price seemed reasonable (at least compared to similar hotels in Bergen). We had a room in the newly added section of the hotel, which was fine for us because we only had small bags. There are a few stairs to maneuver, but nothing terribly inconvenient. Our room was small, but typical of European hotels. The breakfast buffet was great - some of the best bread we've ever had. A nice assortment of local favorites and more typical breakfast fare for the less adventuresome. All in all, it was a great stay and we would stay there again if we return to Bergen.

The hotel is an old construction, very well maintaned. We got only one day with it full of people and it was a bit complicated, as the restaurant - breakfast - didn´t have the condition to serve all customers. The room was good, its location is excellent, close to the harbour and to the city main sites, even for transportation. The staff was attentious and it is a good choice in Bergen (be careful: a lot, but I mean really a lot of rain).
