We walked to the hotel from the main train station after arriving from Oslo via the Norway in a Nutshell tour. The staff were welcoming and our room was ready for us. We had asked for a room in a quiet location and this was organised. The room (superior) was spacious, clean and had a good size bathroom. Breakfast had a range of dishes and the food was well presented and tasty. A really nice touch provided by the hotel was complimentary tea & coffee throughout the day. In the afternoon, after a day of sight-seeing, it was wonderful to return to the hotel and be able to cook some waffles or enjoy some fresh fruit - also complimentary! Internet access was free and there were 2 computers for guests to use. Augustin also provided free access to a washing machine and dryer - a real bonus for Aussies who are travelling for several weeks. We really enjoyed our stay at Augustin!

We'd never stayed in this hotel before but selected it because it had a laundry room and bath. Strange reason to select a hotel but, with prices, location and standard similar to our other possible choices, these were the deciding factors- particularly after travelling for the last 2-3 weeks.

Friendly and clean, we had a roomy bedroom that was warm and comfortable. Reception was very helpful, particularly with some of the other guests who were there because the volcanic dust had stopped their flights.

Not far from the centre of town, almost next to the harbour, it was a pleasant few minutes walk to reach the fish market, fast ferries, cafes. We never tried the hotel restaurant- mainly because we would not have been able to do justice to the excellent menu.

Waffles and coffee were available in the lounge late afternoon and this provided an opportunity to chat with other residents.

I stayed here for 3 nights in mid March with my partner and found it a great place to explore Bergen from. The location is convenient: about a 5-minute walk from airport bus stop, Bryggen area and best shops and restaurants. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room we had was clean and at the back of the hotel, so quiet, though the double bed was actually twins pushed together. There was a decent buffet breakfast, great if you like cold meats and cheeses in the morning. As for Bergen, it was fab. Make sure to try out the Floibanen funicular for spectacular views of the city and peaceful walks among snow-covered forest. The 'Norway in a nutshell' fjord tour round-trip from Bergen was the highlight of our week-long trip to Norway - the scenery was jaw-dropping. In a country where everything (and I mean everything) is crazily expensive, that trip was great value. Do be aware that Norway is way more expensive than other Scandinavian countries. We found that the Engen area (5 mins from hotel) was best for value restaurants, particularly Cafe Opera, where we ate twice.

The location is good, easy walking distance from all of Bergen's great attractions but still quiet. Rooms clean, quiet and comfortable with plenty of space. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty but, best of all, the free waffles/coffee/tea in the early evening were yummy! A real treat to relax with in the cosy lounge after a hard day's sightseeing. Free internet was a bonus. We will thoroughly recommend.

This is a friendly hotel with a relaxed atmosphere.
Staff were very helpful when we needed to book ferry online to secure best price.
Great buffet breakfast.
Nice treat was the complimentary waffles available in the lounge in the early evening, which set you up, before dinner.
Our rooms decor was a little dated. Two single beds were pushed together, which inevitably slide apart. Disappointingly, the bathroom had an unpleasant toilet aroma, which thankfully was contained by closed door.
No Wifi in rooms, but two free internet enabled, computers in reception.
I commend this hotel for its commitment to sustainable tourism.

The Augustin Hotel in Bergen is situated very close to the harbour but not really at the harbour itself, so don't expect a lovely view over the water. When we arrived at the hotel the lady at the reception welcomed us with an overwhelming enthusiasm. That looked promising! But when we arrived at the room we could not help but being a little disappointed. Not because of the size of the room – which is reasonably spacious – but first of all because of the smell of cigarette smoke in what was supposed to be a non-smoking room. Secondly we were a bit disappointed because the room looked somewhat run-down. Typically a room that could do with some refurbishment.

However, after having enjoyed the huge flat-screen TV in the evening and having had a good night's sleep in the comfortable bed the initial disappointment started to fade. And by the time we had enjoyed the wonderful breakfast there was only enthusiasm for this hotel. What a hearty Norwegian breakfast they serve! Home-made pickled haring, fresh salmon and eel, scrambled eggs, meatballs and organic coffee. A great way to start the day.

Taking the fair rate into consideration the Augustin hotel is good value for money. We would definitely stay here again.

The best thing about this hotel is the staff. They really go out of their way to make things easy and pleasant, and to look thrilled to do so. They called cabs, made dinner reservations, printed our emails, provided maps--all while appearing that our requests brightened their day.

The public rooms are cosy and comfy. The main lounge/sitting room is looking a bit frayed, but in a homey, warm way. It has many comfortable chairs and sofas, a good selection of magazines, coffee and tea all day, and make-your-own waffles in the afternoon. The wine bar is tucked away around a corner and down a corridor, and has several tiny rooms in which to enjoy your (expensive) selection. Mind your head, though--some of the doorways are very old, very low arches.

The location is pretty good; the Augustin is not in one of the posher streets, but close enough to walk to everything. I felt very safe coming and going at all hours.

Breakfast was very good in the European fashion: Hard-cooked eggs, cured meats, smoked fish, cheese, cereal, yogurt, etc. Excellent coffee and orange juice.

Our room was very small but adequate. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom efficient and attractive. One stay our room was very quiet; the second stay in another room we heard some noise from the hall but it quieted down.

We hope to return to Bergen someday, and will consider the Augustin as our first choice.
