The location of this hotel cannot be beat --- right on the harbor, across from the fish market and the shopping area and a very short walk to the base of the funnicular. But we had one of the worst customer service experiences in 20 years of European travel. I approached the desk, gave my surname, and was told they had no reservation. I pulled out the written itinerary that I had made for myself, gave them the confirmation number that I had copied and pasted onto it from my emailed confirmation, and was told, brusquely, that there was no active confirmation with that number. The desk employee took the itinerary from my hand and loudly accused me, in front of the other people checking in, of having foolishly made the reservation for the night before and missing out on it. (She was pointing to a place on my own itinerary, but was of course pointing to a different reservation for the hotel where we had stayed the night before.) Finally, after our tired family waited for a good long while quite late in the evening, it was discovered that the other desk worker, a very new employee, had mistakenly given our reserved room to someone else. We had booked a larger family room, and there was not space for all of us, so they ended up giving us two rooms, plus a sheepish but not particularly sincere apology --- and, until I made clear that I thought it was grossly unfair to do so, they were actually completely prepared to charge us full price for the extra room. As it was, the rooms were only OK. Room 706, the family room, requires your child to literally sleep in a dark, windowless closet. It is fairly shabby, with weak wifi and a lot of noise out the window. Room 709, a double room, was quite nice, with a lovely balcony overlooking the harbor. Neither was luxurious. I would find somewhere else to stay. Location is the one and only upside of this hotel and there are dozens of others in the immediate vicinity.
