“Weekend parties cause insomnia”
Reviewed 11 August 2014 via mobile

Hotel Terminus in Bergen is a beautifully restored historic hotel with small but comfortable rooms. But, it really comes down to the question about what you need the hotel for . . . TO SLEEP. Apparently, when there's a party (wedding, last night till 1 AM, then the staff moving all the furniture back to the proper places) in the hotel, the sound transmits up to the rooms. At first, my wife and I thought it was just from the garden area in through our open windows, and when I complained to the staff at 10 PM, they lent me an electric fan so we could close the windows(my suggestion, their solution). But the historic structure was no match for the party's amplified music & scraping of the floor by moving furniture as the sound transmitted up the walls the rest of the night.
It's a well located beautiful hotel with a gym and a great breakfast, but I would never stay here on a weekend night again.

You cannot go wrong with this hotel. We followed the advice of other reviewers and asked for a room in the back of the hotel on the 4th floor. Very quiet and pleasant. I liked the two confortable chairs in the room - which was a descent size (especially for Europe). Staff very pleasant. The highlight was the breakfast and the fresh baked croissants.

Room Tip: Upper floor. Back of hotel.

The Grand Terminus hotel is an elegant, older hotel situated next to the railway station; the bus station is alongside the railway station, and a big shopping centre is also nearby, so a convenient location. It is also only a short walk to the town centre, the fish market and all the tourist attractions.

We had a very pleasant stay over 6 nights. Good points about the hotel include the friendly staff, generous buffet breakfast, and decent sized bedrooms. We were upgraded to a deluxe room including a table, sofa and armchairs, which proved useful to us for relaxing as a family.

There were a few things that spoilt the experience a little. There is free tea and coffee in the bar, but the coffee is poor and it was a nuisance having to get dressed early in the morning to get a drink. You cannot get a decent cup of coffee anywhere in the hotel, even at breakfast.

This is an older hotel and although there has been some renovation the age shows in places. The lifts are small and slow; even on the fifth floor it was quicker sometimes to take the stairs.

In the bedroom I was surprised to find only a single multi-purpose liquid soap dispenser attached to the wall, rather than the row of little bottles and soaps that you generally get in a hotel at this kind of price.

There is a bar menu; we had pizzas one night which were tasty, though beware Sunday evening when everything is closed (you can buy beer from reception and that is about it).

The whisky bar does have a fantastic selection though we found that the barman was so preoccupied with discussing and explaining the fine range of whisky that service for more mundane things like beer or pizza could be slow.

Overall though a pleasant place to stay.

Room Tip: There is some noise from outside the railway station so might be quieter on the north side; but the...

Next door to train station and 5 minute walk to town center. Very pleasant receptionist. We had a Master Suite room, which was very nice, especially for the price (the room could use some remodeling, but we loved the old bathtub, bed, etc.). No complaints. Breakfast was excellent (Rica Hotel at airport in Stavanger was better for breakfast).

Hotel is 2 minute walk from the train station and a 10 minute walk to Bryggen area and the Floibanen funicular and other sights. Stayed there for 3 nights and had a very large room on the top floor. Staff was very helpful and the interior was classic wood with a beautiful whiskey bar. Breakfast buffet was good with an assortment of items. It was interesting that even though we were close to the train station, it was not noisy at all,my wife and I had no trouble sleeping.

Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: While the view is not as great as other hotels on fjords, get a room on the top floor to see the roo...

We spent two nights at the Grand Terminus and loved it! The hotel is easy to find and located right next to the train station. The hotel itself is of another era--we loved the old world charm, the interesting art in the hallways, and the excellent service. The room was lovely, and we could get fresh air and keep the window open night and day. (Remember there is no A/C in most of Scandinavian hotels, so being able to open windows is a huge benefit during summer months.) There wasn't much street noise, but I think we requested a quiet room. The breakfast was generous and tasty! Overall, this was our favorite hotel that we stayed in during our trip. I would highly recommend it when in Bergen!

Room Tip: Request a quiet room so you can sleep with the windows open when traveling in the summer.

stayed for 3 days vacation travel July 2014
breakfast was the best we had in Noway( good selection/hot and cold items/lots of tea choices and tea pots, lovely old wood paneled room)
location- as noted- right next to train station and 5 minutes form bus station
rooms ere nice and clean- had a regular room once ( back of hotel is quieter, room a bit small an dated , but very functional) - had an upgrade 1 night -very spacious room . It was across from train station , but seemed to quiet down in the evening
staff as noted was very helpful and friendly.
there is a washer/drier you can use ( ask staff where it is) ( the washer takes forever to run )
would recommend and would be glad to stay there again

Room Tip: away form train station is quieter
