Booked a Sognefjord Adventure Independent Rail Tour through Authentic Scandinavia, Bergen being our last destination, where we had 3 nights. Opted for a cheaper, category 2 hotel - category 1 being First Hotel Marin, #11 on Tripadvisor and 253 Euro per person more expensive and as it turned out the furtherest away from everything. Category 2 should have been Augustin Hotel (#3 on Tripadvisor), but due to lack of twin rooms we were allocated Grand Terminus Hotel (#5 on Tripadvisor) instead. Very happy about that!
Hotel rooms have a nice modern decor, the communal areas a lovely old fashioned feel. Fantastic downstairs area where you can get free teas, coffees and fruit, as well as probably quite expensive drinks from the bar and meals. Breakfasts are great and plentiful. The hotel has bicycles to rent out for free, which can be used in the nearby park.
If you arrive to Bergen by boat it's a 20 minute walk from the harbour through the city centre, but if by train it's right next to the rail station. At the station you can buy a Bergen Card for public transport and discounts at museums. Round the corner from the Grand Terminus Hotel there is a tram which will take you to Edvard Grieg's Museum - Troldhaugen, round the corner are also buses which will take you to the Gamle Bergen - Old Bergen Museum, and a free bus to the city centre and Bryggen. In the little cobbled streets near the hotel walking towards the centre there is a great Cafe Aura with fresh, delicious and not too expensive food.
All highly recommended. Would return to Bergen and to Grand Terminus Hotel.
