Of the 5 hotels we stayed in during our trip to Norway, this was the cheapest, and we knew there would be shared toilet and shower facilities - so we were a little apprehensive. No need! We stayed one night in an "ordinary" room, and one night in the balcony room, for 200NK extra -- well worth it. The room was large, lovely, with a balcony affording views over the city. The building itself is very interesting, the location perfect for touring the city. Breakfast was adequate, and we were most pleased to receive pack-ups for our early morning departure. Yes, its a bit of a climb to reach, but we're 72 and 74 and managed just fine.

Room Tip: Go for the balcony room, which is actually two rooms + a balcony.

Skansen Pensjonat is located at an ideal location, right near downtown Bergen with great views of the city. The room was simple and clean with large windows and lots of light. The cost includes a delicious breakfast and the staff is very helpful.

We loved this place. A very historical building on the hill in Bergen that provided a 'real' Norwegian experience. The included morning meal was a wonderfully prepared traditional Norwegian breakfast. Each small dining table's "place card" was a flag of your country noting where you were to sit which also enabled conversation with others in dining room. The lower level apartment with a small kitchenette, private bathroom and private entrance was perfect for a several day stay. The hilly streets allow you to get your exercise! Enjoyed seeing the drummers practising around the nearby streets outfitted in their band uniforms. The pension is very close to town, the waterfront and the fish market. The Fløibanen funicular is a must do and is very close. Recommend walking back using the trail and look for the carved wooden trolls tucked around the trees.

We visited in March 2007 and were treated with some dry days, and it was not particularly cold. Would definitely return to this lovely accommodation.

Room Tip: Separate apartment has kitchen facilities to help keep costs down.

The good thing is, it's literally just above the mt floyen bottom station and only 5 minutes' away from the Bryggen wharfs. The bad thing is, it's above the mt. floyen bottom station. and that means a crazy steep slope to climb to get there. Not that bad if you're traveling light as you can take the stairs. But pure torture when you're dragging a 20kg luggage and a 15kg backpack along with a daypack. Thankfully the pain was short and sweet, maybe ten minutes of quick walking will get you there.

We stayed in the apartment that was in the basement and had a private entrance that we can go in from around the back of the house. Much more convenient than going through the front and climbing down the extremely narrow steps down. The apartment was a bit tight (small kitchen along the corridor, then our bedroom behind another door), but it did its job well. Bed was super comfy and sheets were nice.

The highlight is probably Jannicke and the breakfast she whips up. Super friendly and very kind, every morning she would ask if we would like eggs with our breakfast (you can even request how cooked you want it to be; hard boiled, medium, soft), and offer to pour coffee or tea for us etc etc. The breakfast spread was wonderful! plenty of toasts, rolls, ham, jam, butter, cheese, cucumbers and juice. Perfect way to start a long day of touring Bergen. the bread rolls were the best, crispy on the outside, soft and fragrant on the inside. perfect with jam! She would also put out digestive biscuits and coffee and tea throughout the day/night for guests staying there!

Really enjoyed my stay here although it was rather pricey (1200 NOK per person for 3 nights).

The Skansen Pensjonat was a great start to our visit to Skandinavia. We took a bus from the airport at Norway and walked up to the hotel. We had the downstairs room/suite with it's own entrance, bathroom, and little kitchen area. The host also made a great personal breakfast spread that made a great start to the morning. Having our own entrance through the side of the building made it great for leaving early and coming late. The view from the breakfast room down to the city/harbor area is great. Definitely not the feel of a large chain hotel, very personal. I would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Choose the downstairs room/suite with it's own entrance. It is a more expensive room but in my...

My husband and I spent 3 nights at Skansen Pensjonat and were not disappointed. Our hostess Jannicke was very kind and helpful. We stayed in the balcony room which had an amazing view of the city. The rooms are pretty basic with toilet and shower down the hall. Jannicke served us breakfast every morning and always had tea and cookies in the living room (great on a cold day!). The pension is very central to everything, walking distance to the train, fish market, and historic Bryggen. We hope someday to return!

This is a small B&B in the centre of Bergen and considering Norways prices extremely good value for money.

It is a steep climb from the centre up a winding path but the views at the top make up for any inconvenience this may cause.

My room was a small single with shared bathroom facilities. I was a little unsure about this at first but I never had to wait for a shower and you are provided with a toweling robe. It is kept immaculately clean.

Breakfast is made to order I had boiled eggs and was asked exactly how I like them. I prefer a runny egg and it was cooked to perfection.

Highly recommended.
