“Ok for location and nightlife/concerts”
Reviewed 5 September 2013

I choose to stay in this hotel with a very specific goal: Going to a metal concert in Garage and hiking in the mountains, so i wanted mostly a price/location
The room was confortable, clean and tidy, and the shared kitchen was very useful so i could cook my own meals.
I understand that people who are in the mood of having a relaxing time, might not find it here, and its better to be informed about certain things so you wont get a surprise. Yes, no elevator since this is a old building, and my room was on the third floor, but i was aware of that and since i am a hiker that was not much of a problem.
After 16h, nobody in reception, you open with your key.
The location was perfect. It was easy to reach the street that leads way up to Fløyen mountain (where i went hike everyday for hours in the wonderful woods) and also the concert was right next door in Garage. So i guess the choice depends on what you are willing to do.
If you are willing to have a relaxing weekend, reception, a good calm night of sleep, you better search somewhere else, specially in weekends. Here is really really noisy. I had earplugs so for me was not a problem, but i know for most people it is. But if you are young, and you are willing to go to bed late and spend all day out and want a affordable price (rememeber Norway is expensive), and dont mind the aforementioned conditions, so this hotel is ok. For me it was ok, it was a good choice.

Rooms are small though sufficient. The shower is actually made by the tube coming out from the wall: thus taking a shower means throwing water all around the bathroom
Rooms are on upper floors and there is no lift
In the middle of the floor, there is a small kitchen and a refrigerator which can be used by guests
My opinion is not as bad as others I've read: if you're looking for a cheap room and staying only a couple of days, it can be ok
Reception is limited to a certain hours (I might be wrong, but it should be 10AM - 3PM): for check-in at other hours there is a number to be contacted

I was in Bergen for 2 days and needed a nice place to stay for 1 night. I looked through all the long list of hotels and hostels and this one seemed the most suitable. It had an affordable price, the room was quite small, it was the only time in my life i've stayed in a single room, but it was clean. The recepction closes early - I arrived at about 8-9 pm and picked up the key at the rock bar that is situated in the same building with no problem. There are no stairs, but my room was on the 2nd floor so I managed to go up and didnt get tired:) The place was clean, comfortable, the common kitchen and sitting room looked good. I needed to walk 5 minutes to get to the market and city center, so for me it was perfect!

After we rode the review, that dfined the hotel terrible, we decided to book anyway and call it The Terrible Inn (in a joke way). But honestly our stay was very good (1night). The bathroom bit small but clean and new, the bed very confortable. The stuff is so kind. Moreover, with spent a fantastic night at The Garage, the hotel sister pub just at the next door. The bad think is the price, was expensive for a hotel with a hostel attitude.

Fraternity House from Hell!
Booked at booking.com as an apartment with 2 rooms/3 beds, but it was 1 room 3 beds, nothing to present to colleagues, who were coming the next day.... All city hotels were full, so no remedy.
Common kitchen was dirty, and worn down completely. Old food was crawling out of the fridge.
No utensils to eat with in sight. When we requested some the cleaning assistant told us to go to another floor and steal some there. However, there were no utensils there either, except a broken plastic fork...
No help upon request for a room change since we were two colleagues, only an offer of "Cancellation & Refund"
Taxi driver said when arriving "This is not really a hotel"
Guess what: He was right. It was a fraternity house, with a rock club in ground floor so people were brawling into the wee hours of the mornings, and opposite from the room the catholic church were ringing away..... DO NOT GO HERE!!!

I just stayed for one night in Bergen, and this hotel was very reasonably priced for the area.
It was very central, close to all the sights.
It is more of a hostel than hotel, with communal kitchen facilities available. I was expecting more facilities in the room. The tv only had a few channels available (not that you would go to Bergen to watch tv), and the curtains were very thin. I would have appreciated thicker curtains as it light for most of the night in the summer and the curtains let all the light from outside into the room.
I stayed on the top floor and there was no lift, and over 90 steps to encounter.Lucky I'm fit!
The reception is only manned for certain hours during the day, so you may have to check in at the bar next door. No problem there. I found the staff friendly, welcoming and helpful. They recommended several restaurants and cafes nearby.
If you are travelling on a tight budget (and this is an expensive country!), and if you want somewhere relatively cheap and central, this is the place, but don't expect any frills!

Room Tip: Unless you like climbing stairs, a room on the lower floors would be best, although probably not abo...

This place is not a hotel but a hostel. It was impossible to get in contact with the stuff and keys were picked up in the bar below. Bathroom is tiny and water stays on the floor. No cleaning and extra towels etc. cost extra. Very bad internet connection. There is kitchen and people make a lot of noise from early morning to the late night. You can also hear the very loud music from the bar below. No place where to leave the luggage after check out. As there is no personal present (stayed 3 nights but never saw anybody and they did not called back when I called them!) it is impossible to get any possible assistance.
