Historic hotel. Close to everything. B&B good. A short walk to the main street. Lots of restaurants, bars, pubs. A nice city, both in rain and sunshine. The hotel is a 5 min walk from a famous rock pub, Hulen.

We really wanted to like it here, but couldn't.

We thought the breakfasts were a snug fit, but they were adequate. The staff was pleasant and attended the our concerns. We were not in the main hotel, but in a building across the street.

First off, parking is NOT included in the your hotel price. It's an extra 20 dollars/day. There is no coffee/tea in your room, though we were later told that they would have loaned us a pot had we mentioned it earlier. Our bed was very hard, the bathroom was very small and every day I had to ask for extra towels.

We appreciated the dark shades (Since it stayed late so long), but had wished for many things.

If you like small hotels with character, I can't imagine a better one than Hotel Park. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are well appointed and the breakfast delicious - local smoked trout makes a great alternative to eggs and bacon. I thought the room rate was a pleasant surprise - this is Norway, after all.

What really sets this hotel apart though is the very special atmosphere created by a combination of typically understated Norwegian charm and efficiency from the staff and the absolutely fascinating objets d'art collected by the owner from all over the world. It's the little touches that make a holiday; when we asked if our niece who was working at Bergen hospital could join us for breakfast, the answer was of course - every day and no charge!

The situation was ideal for us - easy walk into town but set in the quiet university quarter - we only heard one end-of-exam party and that was walking into town at 11am - those Norwegians are so mature!

Only possible downside is the schlep up the hill from the bus station to get there - but don't come to Bergen if you don't like hills.

If you are a bit tired of the corporate blandness of the big chains, this hotel is an absolutely wonderful breath of fresh air.

Room Tip: All the rooms we saw seemed pleasant. We were in the main hotel building so I can't comment on t...

NIce b&b with lots of charm. Not right in city center but a 10 minute walk will get you there.
Clean overall and decent breakfast. Nice touch with having home made cookies available in the afternoon.
Receptionist wasn't the most friendly/warm person but is efficient.

The hotel is located up a pretty substantial hill especially if you are hauling your luggage but once you get used to it you realize that it's just a nice walk. It is less than 10 minutes from the "modern" downtown and another five from the historic harbor area. The breakfast is traditional Norwegian which is to say most Americans won't be satisfied with the options that are served. Our room in the old building (no lift) was clean, large enough, and had a nice bathroom. The biggest downside was the noise from the surrounding neighbors as the hotel is located in a residential area seemingly occupied by the bar hopping age groups. Because it was warm while we were there we had to open the windows at night and we could hear the neighbors for blocks. It is definitely not a bargain but then again nothing in Norway is. I can't say the hotel staff was particularly knowledgeable or helpful but they were pleasant enough.

Room Tip: Our room in the old building on the street side was incredibly noisy. If a good night's sleep is...

The Park Hotel is an easy 10-minute (uphill) walk from downtown. We tried to take a taxi after arriving by ferry with our luggage from the Sognefjord, but the taxi driver told us to walk, and it was fine. Get a room in the main building, and not in the annex. The first night we were in room 215 in the annex, and there was a noisy restaurant next door. But room 14, which they gave us for the rest of the nights, was great, with a view of the surrounding mountains and lots of light. The internet is fast, but inconveniently you have to log in each time you turn on your device. The breakfast buffet has nice salmon, cheeses, and jams, but the scrambled eggs were cold. If you are visiting the University of Bergen, it is just down the street. Downtown, however, is not far. Be sure to take the funicular to the hill above town for the view. And if you are into history, just down Allegaten, at number 33, where there is now an ugly concrete classroom building, used to stand the Bergen School of Meteorology, where modern meteorology was founded by Vilhem Bjerknes and his staff 100 years ago. They were the first to plot fronts and low pressure systems, using detailed local observations during World War I. “Fronts” were named because of the battle lines between warm and cold air masses.

Room Tip: Choose one in the main building.

I hate chains , and enjoy quirky, small fun hotels. I am also not very picky. This place could have fit the bill if a few things were different. I could hear my neighbor snoring thru the wall next to me is one - first time in all my travels. Second, the bathroom towels are about as comfortable as a motel 6 towel. For 200+ a night I expect a decent set of towels.

If the price was about 50 less these things would be acceptable.
Bergen is cute town. I would go back but stay elsewhere.
