Just returned home to the US after a 2 night stay in Bergen that was our last stop on an amazing Norweignen adventure. We arrived by Express boat from Flam and were unsure of how far the hotel was from the port. We grabbed a cab loaded our bags and told the cab driver where we were headed. He very kindly explained that the hotel was only a few blocks away and only one turn from the port on pedestrian only Torgallmenningen so we would be better off walking. We did and it was so easy to get there. However we were a bit confused about the entrance as you enter through the restaurant and the hotel check in is tucked away behind a wall next to the elevator. It is just one desk and struck as as very cool, it was like the hidden hotel. We were checked in by Maria who was cheerful, sweet and extremely service oriented. We had 2 adjoining rooms a junior suite and a superior on the second floor with a view of the lively street. The hotel is in an old building but the everything in the room has a contempory vibe and is new. The suite was large and had 2 chairs, 2 stools and a large cocktail table and a 55" flat screen on the wall. I loved the purple touches and modern decor. The wall graphics in the rooms and the hallway are very hip. The hotel reminds me of the W hotels. The bathrooms are utlra modern with a black slate like shower with a hand held and rain shower. The superior rooms bathroom had glass walls etched with a purple graphic for privacy. This bathroom was actually more spacious than the one in the junior suite. The only negative is that the bathroom has no toiletry products, no wash cloths and the soap is located in a dispenser on the wall in both the shower and at the sink. On a positive note, when I requested wash cloths and a shower cap they were delivered promptly. The food offerings at the hotel were also a really nice touch. We did not take advantage of the evening food offering but did enjoy the very adequate breakfast buffet. Breakfast is served in the lower level wine room and it is actually quite a cozy spot. Loved it. In addition to the buffet choices you could get made to order eggs and waffles. Breakfast during the week was served til 10 but the staff earned points with me by not clearing things away promptly at 10.
As for the location it is centrally located near the busy Bryggen historic area and wharf but right on , which I liked.
