“Worth to visit”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

A small villa which looks like fallen out of a fairytale, surrounded by beautiful nature. It actually acts like a museum of Ole Bulla's life and work, but it's very interesting even if you are not a classic music fan. The only disadvantage is that i's quite hard to get there (impossible on Sunday) - you have to take a bus from Bergen, which doesn't go very often, and then boat (and latest boat on the way back from the island departs quite early, around 4pm I think). But anyway it's worth to visit, it's not far away from Bergen so the trip is not long, and the whole place looks very charming and peaceful.

“The home of a nearly forgotten world famous virtuoso”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

The violinist Ole Bornemann Bull was in his time one of the most famous virtuosos.
Everyone today with musical interests remember the name of Niccolo Paganini, but Ole Bull is nearly forgotten which is sad as he was rated as an artist at the highest possible level.
His curious life brought him all over the world, but he always returned to his homeland where he built two summer houses which still can be visited. Especially the house at Lysøen is impressive an is a must for every visitor whith musical interests.

“Fantastic fairytale island”
Reviewed 7 October 2012

It is a fantastic island. Not entirely easy to get here if you don't have a car but definitely worth the trouble. A little ferry gets you the few hundred yards across the fjord and a the island with its fairytalelike charm is all yours. Explore the woods, the views from the small tower in the middle of the island or get a cup of coffee at Ole Bulls house. I live about two kilometeres from the place and just love it. (We often come here on Sundays with our own little boat.)

Nice place, good garden.

You have to be very keen to go here because of the composer, yet it is a very beautiful place.
