Our exhibitions offer a vast collection of ship models - including viking ships - paintings, marine archeological findings and various items related to seamanship and life on board, providing a good insight into Norway's rich maritime heritage. “Norway American Line”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

The museum gives a potted history of boat and ship building in Bergen which is interesting, with lots of models of boats. the must see exhibit is the history of transatlantic travel in steamships that was a major achievement for such a small country as Norway, with millions of passengers carried accross the atlantic.

“Very interesting.”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

We visited as admission was free with a Bergen card. A lot of the signage was in English as well as Norwegian which was a great help.

“History of maritime Bergen”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

Being a town with a long history of maritime activities, this is a must, when visiting Bergen. The history is mostly from the Hanseatic time to modern days. The Vikings are not so clearly focused. Superb for a rainy day in Bergen (The Natural History museum is close by).

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

Really enjoyed this museum. It was staging an exhibition about the North America line with lots of information on Norwegian migrants to the USA. We spent about an hour there and could easily have taken longer. Interesting reports of polar explorations. There are models of Viking boats. I expected to see remnants of real ones but this was probably unrealistic of me. Quite a lot of information in English.

“Great!!”
Reviewed 5 July 2013

This museum is great!! Really well set out and very interesting. Free with a Bergen card which is nice as could work out expensive. Seemed to have some good stuff for kids too. Absolutely worth a visit, and close to the University museums too.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your kind review! We indeed have many children visiting the museum throughout the year. The museum's “family days” (maritime familiedager”) in early November is always a big success.

Welcome back!
