Firstly Bergen itself is stunnng .. The other hotels are somewhat older .. This new hotel is absolutely lovely . What tops it off .. The people couln't be nicer if they tried, the 13 floor restaurant has the best view in the city..the superior plus room was worth the little extra. I will definately be back and will recommend others...

The cool thing in this newest hotel in Bergen was to place the key card in the slot inside the door and have a beautiful giant owl light up on the wall behind the beds! The unusual thing was having gray-colored walls, making for a somewhat dark room. There were a few mod lamps in the room as well.

The bathroom had a shower that was the type you didn't have to "step" into (The tile was even with the rest of the floor.), and helpful for not stubbing the toes.

It would be worth the trip to the top floor (the bar) to see out -- use the elevator furthest to the left, facing the elevators, to get this to work. Oh, and don't forget to use your key card in the elevator.

Breakfast had all the variety you'd ever want. The hotel receptionists were very helpful and agreed to keep our luggage in the luggage room, when we had a miscommunication with our tour company.

Our twin was very quiet and we had a window that looked over the multi-story car park.

The location was handy to the train station and the trams; I really enjoyed traveling through the park area nearby with benches all around on the way to the harbor.

I'm not sure of the exact cost for us (a twin for 2 nights) as we booked through a package with Nordic Visitor.

The hotel was a brand new property which was a month old when we stayed . Scandic hotel are was chic and modern

The hotel was couple of minutes walk from main station and the lobby was Modern , checkin was easy . The hotel is very the city centre and many sightseeing location including the Byrggen

The room were so new that we could smell the paint and varnish . The rooms were small so were the bathroom . The room had Picture of Eagle hanging behind the bed which was not pleasant . It was scary to have it in the room when u want peace

The breakfast was ok and they did nt refill a few items as the hotel was new they could nt estimate the guest which was a bad gesture

Overall not a bad choices

Nice brand new property, at the outskirts (10 min walk) of the city centre. Given that it's brand new, there' s really no issues with beds, amenities etc, but the small issues that exists is (hopefully) start up bits and pieces that will sort themselves over time. Check in and out worked well, was efficient and pleasant.
Breakfast is well sufficient, but maybe not at the level of other Rica hotels (granted that this one has changed to Scandic after they bought Rica) also, this is the tourist bus season, so maybe quality is lowered a bit during the summer months. The breakfast did have its issues with poor cleaning of tables and buffet , and lack of towels to cover bread ( for the bread that guests cut themselves) , and one one morning the restaurant appeared understaffed given the cleaning issues. The tv menu in my room was an absolute nightmare to figure out- I was actually struggling to watch tv normally.... But that might just be me. The thermostat did not appear to function (lowering the temp), and given that my room faced a busy road, opening the window was an issue.
All in all a very pleasant stay, but I'm probably inclined to using the rica hotel up the road next time, which from previous experience is slightly better, and slightly more conveniently located.

Room Tip: View is an issue, and some rooms looks straight into a commercial building across a busy road.

The Ornen hotel is located close to the railway station, but a 15-20 minute walk from all the Bergen highlights around the waterfront. It is a sparkling new hotel, but a bit too modern for my taste. The rooms are very sterile and do not exactly feel as home away from home.
On the plus side: very comfortable beds, nice restaurant, nice shower room with non slip floor, friendly reception, good breakfast, big screen TV and fast elevators.
On the minus side: as with so many Norwegian hotels, the comforters are way too thick and too hot. It never gets cool enough inside a hotel room to need these. In May it is too cool to simply throw it off, but way too hot to have on. The Swedish hotels definitely have this worked out better. Another minus is the fact that the windows hardly open, making my room unnecesarily warm on the cool day we were there. There was no safe in room, no mini bar, no ironing facility, no hooks in room or bathroom to hang things and no place to put a suitcase.

Dear Scandilove!
Thank you very much for taking the time giving us your review. Your input is extremely important to us - especially since we just opend, and are still working on getting all the details in order!
As you noticed there are still a few things that need adjustment, and we work hard every day to improve our product and performance. Room temperature is one important issue, and also missing details in the bathroom.
We sincerely hope to see you back with us some other time!

If you like staying in a room akin to a prison cell this is for you. The room was very dark due to the black and grey decor. A picture of a grotesque looking owl in flight on a black background dominated one wall (if anyone had a fear of birds it would have been a nightmare). The other wall was dominated by a massive television, the one easy chair and bed was uncomfortable. The fridge was on but empty and we were told that only superior rooms have kettles. The menu was basic and did not appeal to us just as well as the restaurant was fully booked and the open plan breakfast room visable throughout all the floors did not appeal to us. For a hotel that has only been open for two weeks and costs £133 per night for a basic room forget it

I am truly sorry that the room and decor of the hotel did not meet your expectations, and this is of course very much a question of taste.

The Scandic Ornen is a new hotel and is conveniently located. We arrived in Bergen and took the Flybuss into the city. The first stop is adjacent to the hotel; very convenient. When we left, we had elected to take the train to Oslo. The hotel is one block away from the NSB train station. Next door is a mall with grocery store, drug store, and liquor store. Given the prices in Norway, this was convenient to purchase our own beer & wine, and food for lunches. The hotel is impeccably furnished, everything is new and well designed. The rooms are small, but well designed. We weren't in the room except to sleep, so it wasn't an issue for us. The breakfast was available each morning and was a great way to start the day. There is a short walk to the downtown area from this hotel (probably the only drawback if you call it that) to get to the fish market and tourist center. The staff was friendly and very helpful for each and every need. There was a nice fitness center (we didn't get to use), and a bistro next to the reception desk that has decent priced beer. I'd highly recommend this hotel. It is likely to be priced slighter higher, but if you shop for a Scandic friends deal or internet deal, the price is fairly comparable to other hotels downtown.

Room Tip: Our room faced the bus station and we didn't hear a lot of noise.

Thank you very much for taking the time giving our hotel your review! We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and the facilities we have to offer. The closeness to train, airport bus and light rail are one of our big advantages, and also the conveinience of having the shopping centre right across the street.
We hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip, and look forward to welcoming you back to Scandic Ørnen.
