The hotel is well maintained and has a perfect location for walking to all the Bergen attractions. We found the staff extremely friendly and helpful -- Bianca stands out. The breakfast and supper buffets are extensive, high quality, and help you save $ in expensive Norway. The rooms are quiet and large, by European standards. Parking is a challenge in Bergen, but the hotel has a few spots across the street which they will let you reserve in advance. The rooms are very pricey, but everything in Bergen is pricey.

The common areas of this hotel are bright and reasonably furnished but in a cheap way despite the cost of the accommodation. Location is very good but heavily trafficked with tourists of which I was one. The seafood markets are fantastic and a great place to eat freshly cooked varieties of crab, prawns, lobster, fish or whatever you fancy.
What appears to becoming a trend is the use of liquid soap dispensers. Cheap! There are no doormen to assist with your suitcases, the check-in staff who also run the adjoining bar are often pre-occupied telling the housemaids which rooms are being vacated and require service. The restaurant has to be seen to be believed. Be prepared to cook your own breakfast on a small grill (eggs and bacon etc.,) which you must share with all the other hotel patrons. You could wait all day for a jug of milk to be placed alongside the self-serve coffee machine. Knock on the kitchen door and still wait five minutes, I thought he must have been milking the cow! After finishing your meal you are required to take your plate to a trolly, scrape off any leftovers, place cutlery into a plastic container, coffee cups on the 2nd tier. The only time we witnessed what could loosely be termed as ''service'' was when an obese woman came into the restaurant and demanded to see the chef because she allegedly had food allergies. She had that man running back and forth to the buffet getting plates of everything while the rest of us dutifully cooked then cleared our plates and cutlery. No placemats, tablecloth, napkins etc., this is a fully self-serve restaurant.
Our fjord view room was so small we became claustrophobic so can't imagine what a standard room must be like. The hotel itself is very old and tells a story of days gone by, the location is fantastic but that's about it!

My grand child (9), who had been to Hawaii this summer, commented: "This is the best hotel and the nicest people!" And I agree. All the staff were helpful and smiling; we were even wellcomed by sms in the morning. Special colours and good furniture all over, and the old building is taken good care of. From the tower you have i nice wiew over the harbour and the city. I find the hotel expensive, but then you got a lot of good food included, dvd player and free films. We really enjoyed it.

Room Tip: Rooms to the back yard are big and quiet.

Havn means harbour in Norwegian and kontoret means office...
The harbour area in Bergen is a charming place to stay and a very short walking distance to the most interesting sights. Rosenkrantz tower and Haakons hall from medieval times and the oldest church in Bergen (St.Mary's) are situated only a few steps away. The famous Fishmarked and the Funicular takes you 5 minutes to reach. Quiet hotel with a great breakfast. Plenty of nice restaurants in walking distance. I like that the hotel doesn't have a busy restaurant and it feels good to get away from the buzz and into the relaxing reception area.....
The rooms are nicely decorated and the beds great.

Room Tip: The hotel has a very special suite with a balcony overlooking the harbour ...expensive but well wort...

This is an average 3 star hotel. The location is good and convenient for many things. But the rooms are small and the amenities basic. Some of the furnishings are looking tired and in need of some TLC. The room temperature is hot and not easy to control, open the window and the outside noise keeps you awake till 2am close the window and the noise is lessened bunt it is too hot to sleep. The food is always cold. The DIY bacon and eggs in the AM -may have seemed like a good idea at the time - but there is not adequate facilities and frequently one person hogs the grill while the rest of us stand in line for up yo 30 minutes waiting to do our eggs and bacon. Personally I pay 4star plus rates to have someone else do it for me. The inclusive evening light meal is a very poor. The supply runs out early and is not replenished the attitude is keep out of the way and let them get on with it. Overall this is not value for money and in many, ways does not live up to the description on line.

This hotel is in a perfect location. It is right in fish market district and has great views. The hotel has a great buffet breakfast included in its price. It also has waffles in the afternoon for its guest and a light dinner free. The staff at the hotel were fantastic and very much wanted to please you. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!
