We stayed in this hotel for two nights after our Oslo visit. The hotel is in a great location right on the historic wharf area and close to the main Bergen attractions.

The hotel is clean, staff is friendly. The water-view rooms are very small but the interior facing 'family rooms' are nicely sized and probably the better option when traveling with kids.

The breakfast and evening buffets are nice -- nothing too fancy and definitely a lot of standard fare without too much variety from day-to-day, but definitely a welcome alternative to the very overpriced restaurants and food stands found throughout the city. Bergen is unnecessarily expensive for what is offered, and avoiding the costly dining options as much as possible is a good decision.

One overlooked feature is the small viewing area on top of the hotel up in the tower -- you have to specifically ask for a key but there is a small exhibit and a place to get a great view of the harbor -- great vantage point for taking pictures.

As far as Bergen goes, this seemed to be the best hotel choice based on the location and the general amenities -- still a bit overpriced for a Clarion but considering how expensive Norway can be it seemed like a good choice.

Room Tip: Water view rooms are very small - larger rooms are the interior facing "family rooms". No...

We had to get to the train station for the obligatory fjord excursion. Asked the front desk to please call a taxi. They acted a bit put out but said they'd call and that a taxi would arrive in a few minutes. Waited in front of the hotel for a while, no taxi, went back in to ask what the problem was, was told just wait, it's coming. This went on for twenty minutes, at which point I asked, "Is a taxi REALLY coming?

The woman at the front desk replied, "Well, it looks like there aren't any taxis available at the moment."

"Why didn't you tell us earlier?"

"Uh, our iPad system doesn't tell us whether taxis are available or not."

We then started running to the station. Barely made it, but very nearly missed our pricey excursion. If they had told us at the outset that there might be a delay with getting a taxi, or that there frequently aren't any available (which seems to be the case), we could've walked to the station (not fun in the rain, but doable). While the hotel wasn't bad overall, this really poor communication and lack of respect for guests on the part of the front desk staff was a real deal-breaker for us. If you have to stay here, be forewarned: don't rely on the staff for transportation arrangements!

Great for:
Location, cleanliness, polite friendly staff
Breakfast was good but could have been any chain hotel in any country. No local Norwegian feel.
Poor:
Complimentary evening meal was like a poor university cafeteria offering, but with not choice! No offering for vegetarians
No bar area as such. Just an extension to the reception that offered a few drinks.
Lack of/no atmosphere in public areas
Rooms good but ones at back of hotel overlooked by offices. Ok if you are there at they weekend

We arrived to the Clarion Collection after booking this online at Hotwire. A friend and I traveling were staying in Bergen 1 night before heading out to explore the Fjords. It was a quick ride from the airport $25 cab fare and about 20 min, into the main part of town where the hotel is located. It is on the land side of a small harbor, near the Radisson Blu.

It is a great location - 1 min walking distance to many restaurants and the multi colored tall A frame shops and houses you see pictures. We walked 5 min to the end of the water inlet where they had all kinds of items of jerky, where fresh fish food items are sold, the fish market and dining areas for people to enjoy the fresh fish.

Over the other side of the harbor by the fish market is the Information center. This is an excellent resource where you can get information on the way to work yourself through the Fjords. We did not have the Fjord tickets pre-purchased since the train from Mydol to Olso you can't buy since the train company can not process over the phone or online a US visa or MC. (read the forums on this)
We got to the information center and you take a number, and they call your number to come to the counter to meet with an advisor. This is the best. They explained to us the whole process and outlined all the Fjords and Norway. They advise you on anything you want to do in Norway! This is a great stop if your confused how to go through the Fjords, what ferrys, train and bus tickets and routes. We opted for Norway in a Nutshell and we were set.

The Clarion Havenekontoret Hotel had a really nice lobby and very comfortable, with many seating areas to lounge. There was free wifi which is important.
We got there on the 1st day of the Tall Ship races and got to go up to the roof and see the tall ships from there. The views from the roof tower, almost like the top of lighthouse tower is amazing. I could see all the tall ships and look all the way out to the ocean, houses on the hillsides and a full view of the small harbor. Just beautiful and stunning, and that alone in my opinion is worth staying at the hotel.

There is breakfast and dinner included in the rate. We did breakfast one day - nice meats, bread, croissants, eggs, bacon the usual breakfast items. We did not do dinner since we explored the local restaurants. The restaurants in town are very expensive $50 or more for a simple meal and glass of wine. So if you opt to eat at the hotel you and your guest can save $100 or more if your on a budget.

We had a room with 2 beds on the 4th floor with a bit of a view of the harbor. it was nice size not as small as European rooms but also not large. It was very clean and very basic, the beds and bedding was very comfortable. The bathroom was nice and roomy.

The hotel staff is very welcoming and warm and friendly and assist with any of your needs.

I was really happy with the hotel and my stay in Bergen. It is a cute town and think the location, and breakfast here was key to staying here in town. I recommend the stay for all categories, business, couples, families, friends and solo.

If I am in Bergen ever again I will stay here again no doubt.

We stayed 2 nights at Havnekontoret hotel in Bergen before we boarded the Hurtigruten cruise. We were very pleased with our choice of this hotel and enjoyed our stay. Here are what we liked about this hotel:

- Great location! Literally next door to the famous Bryggen and the Rosenkrantz tower.
- We got a room on the 6th floor. The room was not big, but had enough space for 2 people. The bathroom was of decent size. The room was clean. Bed and bedding were comfortable. Wifi speed was decent.
- Hotel staff was friendly.
- Breakfast and dinner were both good.
- The lobby had enough seating and was very nice.
- The hotel had a roof top where you could have access if you know about it and ask the front desk for the key. A nice guest told us about it so we got up there and had a great view (and photo opportunity) of the harbor.

Our room had two gable windows and a slanted ceiling. Looking out of the window, we had a good view of harbor and colorful houses. The slanted ceiling, however, was a bit inconvenient. Sleeping on the right side of the bed needs to be very careful when standing up, otherwise you would hit your head on the ceiling. It was actually a bit dangerous. As much as we liked the windows, I wish we were not in a room with such low slanted ceiling.

If we ever go back to Bergen, we definitely consider staying in this hotel again.

The hotel is located on the best part of Bryggen, right in the very center of Bergen. We had a beautiful room on the top floor, with a good view of parts of Bryggen. As the room had no air-condition, we had a little challenge regarding the rather hot weather during our stay - all windows were in the ceiling, so if we opened too much, the occasional rain shower could make the room a bit wet. The breakfast was excellent, as in most Scandinavian hotels, including decent coffee. We came to Bergen by bus, and the hotel is within walking distance from the bus station, and the bus to the airport stopped right outside the hotel.

During our recent holiday, this was one of the best hotels at which we stayed.

The Flybussen from the airport dropped us at the door. Tickets for the 45-minute ride were NK 90 each and can be bought with cash from the driver or with a credit card from a ticket machine.

The building itself is a treasure! It has been boldly decorated with accents of purple and bronze, offset with crystal chandeliers. The very high ceilings and thick carpets underfoot add to the ambience, as do the comfortable chairs and sofas arranged in the lounge off the foyer. The library area in one corner would not look out of place in a stately home.

As for the accommodation… We were thrilled with our room which overlooked the harbour. The room itself was large, with enough space for a coffee table and two lounge chairs, in addition to the chair at the desk. The large bathroom was thoughtfully planned; the heated towel rail was a luxurious touch, as were the extra towels.

Prompt attention was given by Maintenance staff to replacing a blown light globe in the bathroom. (However, one of the two bedroom windows abuts the wall, so there is no room to pull the curtain across. It needs to be pushed across, but to do that requires a rod. Attention Maintenance staff again, please!)

The meals provided are included in the price of the room; that’s a huge saving in Bergen. In the dining area, there was always someone from the kitchen available to explain what each dish was and to replace empty platters. Although there was not a huge range of food available, no-one seemed to go hungry! (Dinner each evening while we were there consisted of one soup, one hot dish, one potato dish, one dessert and plenty of salads. We certainly liked nearly everything on offer and didn’t mind clearing the table ourselves.) Serve-yourself tea and coffee were available from the dining room throughout the day.

If you’re able to climb a few stairs and are not afraid of heights, do take the time to access the tower for a 360 deg. bird’s-eye view of Bryggen, the harbour and its environs.

A small supermarket is located up the hill to the right of the entry and it’s a short walk to the funicular up to Mt Floyen. The walk up to the town itself takes you past the shops and restaurants of Bryggen and the Fish Market, all interesting viewing in Bergen.

We had expected a wonderful location on the wharf, two meals a day (as well as make-your-own pancakes mid-afternoon), and friendly staff, but we had not expected such sumptuous surroundings.

We would definitely choose this hotel again and recommend it highly!
