“Charming, comfortable hotel in great location”
Reviewed 8 June 2013

This hotel was nicely decorated and had a very cozy feel. The location, in the center of Bergen, was very convenient. Staff were nice. The bed was the most comfortable I've slept in throughout Europe! The bathroom was comfortable and breakfast was good. My only complaint was that our room (452 I think) was up a steep flight of dark stairs with non-standard spacing; the handrail ended before the top step. This was daunting with luggage, although the staff helped with that when we checked in. It was also intimidating for me throughout our stay since I have rheumatoid arthritis. If you have any mobility issues make sure to request an elevator-accessible room when you make your reservation.

Used tripadvisor to locate this restaurant and it was well worth it, Nice atmosphere and food was good and reasonable priced. Found it the last day in Bergen would have eaten there again if we had the time.

We were a family of 6 adults and 2year old child. We got rooms just beside each other, with a door between two of the rooms. We had two fine days there, and were able to both be together as a family and look after the child in the evenings, because of the twin rooms.
This is a hotel in a very old building, that has been very carefully taken care of. The rooms were surprisingly good in such a building, with all the comfort you need. The staff was kind and helpful and the food in the restaurant/at the breakfast was very good. There was some noice from the nightlife outside in our room, but that is to be expected in the centre of a city. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the backyard if possible if you want a quiet night.

Our first day in Bergen was a lovely sunny day and we so looked forward to a wonderful room in the hotel. 4th Floor, only skylight windows, eaved ceiling where I hit my head on beams, etc numerous times. Did not get wifi up in the rafters, and the staff was very blase about it saying they never had that comment before....but the BIGGEST problem was the late night noise. Apparently it was the period where students are out of school and it was a Saturday night....yelling, blaring music, whistles....all until past 3:00AM. A lost nights sleep...and the staff not really that sympathetic. I realize they cannot control this, but I think they need to warn people ahead of time. Even though it was this certainly period, I think the problem happens more often than not since ear plugs are part of the room's amenities. All that being said...the bathroom was quite nice with a nice sized separate shower. Also, the hotel's FG restaurant was quite good. Their Mexican OK as well...though nothing special.

This hotel is really pretty cool! Loved the history. The building is amazing- exposed beams, old floors, cute little windows but renovated so comfortable. We had a room spacious enough for an extra bed for our son and didn't feel cramped at all. And a cool claw foot tub in the bathroom (and a real shower). Beds were comfortable with good linens. The breakfast excellent with lots of choice and good food and real espresso! Highly recommended even if it is a bit expensive. The location cannot be beat! Friendly staff.

First the good points. The hotel is in a good location. Breakfast is good. The room we had was nice enough. Not great but certainly acceptable except no windows, only skylights which is disconcerting. The staff is friendly.

However the noise from the celebrating kids on Saturday night was completely over the top and ruined the stay. This is not their fault but we think it is outrageous not to alert guests that this happens regularly and charge accordingly. The person at the desk when we checked out said that the police have given up but why should we be forced to pay for this. On our visit the advertised free wifi was not working in our room and the woman at the front desk didn't seem to care one way or the other. She basically shrugged her shoulders. The main restaurant was good; the Mexican was just so so.

Bergen is a cute town but not enough to put up with noise like this.

We stayed in this old world boutique hotel a few months ago. It is centrally located in Bergen and within walking distance of stores and restaurants. The pier is located across the street. Upon check-in we found our room and bathroom fairly small. The bed mattress was too soft and felt uncomfortable. We had a room facing a side street which was unfortunately quite noisy at night from the cars passing by and people talking loudly. There were some ear plugs by the bedside drawers that were provided by the hotel. Overall we found this hotel to be slightly better than average.
