“Reality Check!”
Reviewed 23 February 2014 via mobile

We Cchose this hotel based on reviews here but personally and realistically its not a value for money hotel. Room given to us was very, very small and near the road. Noises of traffic outside kept us awake almost all night. When I finally fell asleep, a truck starts collecting stuff from the shop across the road at 7 with loud noises. Maybe it was just a one time incident but honestly I won't risk staying in the raod front.

Another down was that we asked for a double bed and they just put two beds alongside each other with no mattress on top to join the bed. The staff told me this is the Norwagian way but we got a mattress on top without the need to ask in all other hotels we stayed in Norway.

Ups are that the staff are friendly and the breakfast is nice.

We had 2 great nights staying here at the end of Jan, we had booked it on the strength of reviews on TA and we were not disappointed at all.

The welcome when we arrived was really warm and friendly and both rooms were ready. We were travelling with friends and we had both booked deluxe rooms 336 (ours) 334 (our friends). Both rooms faced out to the front of the hotel which is sideways onto the main road so you look out over a small side road onto a beautiful restaurant bar on the opposite side of the road.

336 was slightly larger than 334 and the bathroom and bath was also slightly bigger but both rooms were lovely. I loved the fact that the floor had a slight slope to it adding real character to what is a beautiful old building. Our bathroom was large with a big slipper bath and a separate shower with lovely under floor heating.

We had a huge TV, fridge/mini bar/hairdryer/desk/room safe/lots of hangers in the wardrobe/chairs/a number of easy to get to plug sockets (a real pain if you have to fight to find somewhere to charge up phones/camera batteries etc) and a chest which was great to put my suitcase on. The free wifi worked well in our room with good signal and speed. The beds as others have said are so comfortable but are two large singles pushed together so you do lose an arm down the middle if you are not careful... The two separate duvets idea took some getting used to on our trip but stopped me stealing it from my husband according to him!

The breakfasts were really good with a good choice of cold items, a less wide choice of cooked items but as we were only there 2 nights it was not a problem. We did not eat in other than that but the menu looked good. If nothing else go and look for the most amazing light fitting that used upturned cut glass wine glasses and tumblers (now trying to find someone to make us one for home).

We were not boarding our Hurtigruten ship till the late afternoon so the hotel stored our cases for us and ordered us a taxi to take us to the terminal. Nothing was ever too much trouble and who ever was on reception as we passed were always cheerful.

We loved Bergen and will hopefully go back and would certainly stay here again!

Room Tip: Deluxe room 336 was lovely and seemed to be larger than 334

Stayed for 1 night on a business trip. The hotel is in a historic building which has been converted for the purpose and could best be described a boutique hotel. The staff are friendly and the facilities or what I saw of them seemed to be good. It is centrally located and would be good for a social visit to Bergen.

I initially thought the decor was a little tired until I realised that the slightly 'shabby chic' look they were hoping for. The wifi is good as is breakfast and bed was comfortable. The rooms are not very large and may not have been best thought out ie. the light is such in the bathroom that one's face is in shadow when trying to shave. Also the entire room slopes down hill however this due to the nature of the building but does make it slightly disconcerting at first.

I would say that this is not a place to stay if one has limited mobility as there are numerous steps and space is generally at a premium.

The hotel is well presented and decor is lovely. Reception, bar and dining area are very inviting.

The location is excellent, you are close to everything you want to see in Bergen - able to walk everywhere.

Room - we had a deluxe room (222); the room was well presented with a lovely bathroom and gorgeous bath. The bed was not the most comfortable, as it is two mattresses that split in the night so one person ends up sleeping in the most uncomfortable spot - we spoke to reception and they advised that "UK peple usually complain, and they have joins" that they can put on the bed. Why they didn't do this before we arrived - as we had ordered the double and not the twin, i do not know.

Breakfast - Good selection for breakfast but coffee is not the best. Clearing dirty plates from tables is a slow process also the bench seats (don't look down) there is a lot of food in the cracks of the cushions.

Dinner - we ate at the FG restaurant due to our late arrival. Service was spot on, food was spot all and ambience lovely. I would recommend this restaurant if you are arriving late.

Stayed for one night, between two long and demanding days on training. The hotel is situated close to all that matters in Bergen, the reception was very friendly, the room spacious, clean and beautifully designed.

Stayed at room 227, next to one of the hotel´s restaurants. Lively sounds trough the wall during until midnight, but nice and quiet afterwards.

Dinner and breakfast at the FG Restaurant next to the hotel. Tasty meals in nice surroundings.

Ordered a room for my next stay in February as I checked after the stay.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 227 if you plan to go to bed early.

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The décor reminds me a lot of the Zetter Town House Hotel in London which is one of my favourites. The service was excellent, the rooms are a decent size with a large bathroom and a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was lovely, with everything from sausage, bacon and egg to pastries and full continental. Good price, good service, great room and super breakfast. Why anyone would go to a Radisson business hotel instead of somewhere like this with such local flavour is beyond me. Stay here you will NOT regret it.
