“Good food, nice antique building, ok service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2013

Liked the food, high prices though, service ok.

--food good flavour and big enough portions, not phenomenal though
--140NOK starter, 300NOK main course. Not cheap
--Lady did a good effort, able to detect bad wine - changed bottle for us. However we asked for table in front of window and she said no because others were coming. By the time we finished dinner nobody had yet arrived to the table by window

I would not come back but good for a first time in bergen

“Excellent Service on Bryggen”

Enjoyed an excellent dinner here on August 13th, and the service was great! Old world atmosphere in the heart of Bryggen. Highly recommend.

“Fantastic Seafood - Grumpy Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2013

The seafood is fantastic, and you can't beat the ambiance of this building that dates back hundreds of years. Admittedly the service was poor. For example, when splitting the bill, the waiter made us do the math ourselves. I've never experienced that anywhere else. However, the food was fantastic and you can't expect good service in Norway. In Tokyo this restaurant would be out of business due to the Soviet style service, but in Norway this is as good as it gets.

“Go here for good Norwegian food in an amazing old-world setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2013

I'd recommend this restaurant in the old Bryggen area if you have only one dinner in Bergen. It's old-world in its atmosphere and service. The service is formal and not effusive, which I suppose some reviewers could confuse as "poor" or "grumpy" service. I view it as the way service used to be in the old days - competent but not chit-chatty. If you go in with that expectation, you'll have a good meal.

It's a fish restaurant, of course, so don't expect steak. Our fish course was very well prepared and came with the best boiled potatoes I've ever eaten.

The wine list, however, was a bit limiting. While it was focused on France, you could really only choose one bottle from each region. I chose the Chablis since it matched well with the fish.

“Menu and wine very good indeed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2013 via mobile

Make sure to order a table during tourist season as this is very popular with visitors. And with good reasons. Love the building and fun to imagine all the people who have been in that building throughout its history. We ordered set menu and a la carte, and everyone was well pleased with the food and the recommended wine. It was of course pricey, but that is to be expected unfortunately. But we were lucky with our waiter who was cheerful and attentive, even when the restaurant started filling up. My main complaint with the restaurant is that they should take a little more pride in what they are serving and where it comes from. The food was served without any form of introduction and i feel that this is handled better by many of their competitors. I enjoy knowing if we are enjoying local produce. I also recommend that they ask guests if they want to know something about the building.
