Visited this restaurant recently with a friend. The grand surroundings are lovely and the table set-up is very nice and creates a good atmosphere which we enjoyed. The positives does however stop there. The service was not very good - they took a long time to take our order and randomly turned up when you least needed them but never when you did. We also asked about wine choices and it was clear that they did not have the slightest idea what to suggest on what was a relatively small wine menu to start. I don't mind if not all waiters know the wine but then find someone who does! This was a Saturday night as well.
As well as the service, the food we had was a major let-down. My friend had a starter that I thought was the mousse-bouche. It was so small it is difficult to even describe the taste as it was less than a mouthful worth of trout. Would have been acceptable as part of a 10 courser but was completely unacceptable as as starter on it's own. I had the oysters which were ok but not very meaty. We both had the same main which again was disappointing. The cod itself was cooked OK but the extras were lacking in flavour, innovation and presence. Again, the size is very small. More accpetable than the starter but still too small for a main meal. There has to be a difference in size when you serve food as a la carte and as part of a set menu with 5-10 courses and I am pretty sure they just serve the same for both. After 2 disappointing courses we cut our losses and left without dessert. Still turned out expensive for what we had. I would avoid this place as there are so many other places in Bergen now serving great food.
