“A hidden pearl”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2012

We have visited this fantastic place in the heart of the Norwegian North-West Coast again. Although there are quite a few historic places on the coast, you will not find very many like Angvik. The staff takes well care of you with their warm hospitality, the nature is beyond most places and the food is excellent. We would almost say that Angvik is worth a journey - it is a hidden pearl.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a sea view.

We had a weekend all inclusive at this quaint boutique hotel in the winter. It was a cosy getaway during the long dark winter months. We had a lovely room and the hotel was very quiet as there were very few guests. The breakfasts were very chincy and not at all up to the standard of the other meals we had or in regards to the room rate. The only thing hot was a boiled egg. This is not exclusive hotel standards in my opinion. We had one lovely dinner and one not lovely dinner of three courses. We were disapointed in that when we asked what the evening meal was, we were told that no substitutions could be made because it was too short notice. We asked right after breakfast. I was hungry to say the least as one of the dinners I did not enjoy due to the protein they wouldn't switch out.
The local food concept was appreciated and we enjoyed some of the food. Lunch of soup and bread was tastey but also a little chincy as we were hungry for more. This however is all inclusive so thats all you get! WE spent the afternoon in the spa having massages which were nice but nothing more than having oil rubbed on your body (no such thing as deep massage in Norway it seems) and taking in the Olympics on tv. The museum which is also part of the same complex was very interesting. I did not like that I had to pay extra to use the spa facility. This should be included in the over priced room rate. In summary the hotel was very nice, the food had its moments, the price was over the top. I would not stay there on my own dime. We won this trip through a draw.

We stayed here during a tour of Norway staying in historic hotels. This was one of, if not the best places we stayed in. It's expensive, but worth it.
Angvik Gamle Handelssted was a trading post dating from the 16th century. The hotel itself is built on the site of the former barrel factory - the form and some of the materials echo that building, but the new building is to extremely high standards.
Its setting is idyllic, on the shore of Tingvollfjorden, in a group of buildings which re-create the old trading post - they now accommodate an art gallery, museum, shop and pool/spa. In front of the hotel are pontoons, with boats available to hire, either for fishing, or just for rowing and enjoying the fantastic scenery.
Reception and public rooms are characterful and comfortable. The bedrooms are generous, with a good mix of modern and antique - the beds are large & comfortable, the bedding very good quality. The bathrooms are similarly high quality.
The restaurant serves a set meal each evening - excellent quality and service.
Service generally is efficient and discreet.

Welcome to our hotel gem by the bay! Angvik Gamle Handelssted is located in the village of Angvik, by the Tingvollfjord in Nordmore. The place has roots back to the 1500's when sailing ships from Holland anchored up in the bay to buy timber. Angvik Handelssted was managed by John and Gurianna Angvik who got 14 children, where 12 of them started their own businesses, with it's roots in Angvik. A unique family saga started, and the family is still engaged in operations, now in 5th generation. Today, the hotel is fully restored with high and a distinctive standard. In a traditional Norwegian cabin from the 1700's, you experience one of Norway's finest spa, in addition we have our own museum and art gallery. Our cuisine serves local ingredients with a international touch. In elegant surroundings we invita to a great and real experience.
