“What a wonderful hotel!”

A 2 minute walk from the cruise terminal, we loved staying here for two nights. We had a LARGE sized room but an average view (no large rooms w the view of the ocean). The breakfast was good not great. Its right off one of main tourist streets with some of the art noveaux buildings. The front office staff was incredibly helpful with places to see, taxi bookings, and tour arrangements.

This hotel caters for large coach bookings - they swamp the hotels facilities and get preference for service. We were here for the final three nights of a two week west coast of Norway holiday and it was an anti climax. The 'business class' room was adequate, just. We reported that there was only one robe - but nothing happened. The twin beds were narrow and the shower flooded. Great view of the sea, but a lot of rooms didn't seem to get this. When we couldn't get into the restaurant (because of a large coach party) we asked about the room service mentioned in the brochure and were told that it wasn't possible - because of the large coach party.
A different coach party each morning ravaged the rather poor breakfast buffet and made it very uncomfortable. The weather was bad and we went to read in the the lounge only to find that it had been given over to a firm conducting interviews, we repositioned twice but each time a fresh interview started up around us.
We had booked independently and felt that the reception staff were more interested in their coach parties than helping us.

Whilst on a business trip I stayed in this Radisson due to the fact that it is 100m away from the ferry port that takes you to Ulsteinvik - where I was working. The Radisson is like all Radissons in Scandinavia - clean and efficient, although perhaps a touch old-fashioned.

It is certainly my preferred hotel when in Alesund as it is so convenient - close to good restaurants, reasonably priced, close to the ferry port and also close to the bus stop (flybussen) that takes you straight to the airport.

I'm sure I will stay here again in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the sea

Third time that I visit this hotel since 2007, and it is still very good.
The rooms are nice, the view magnificent (make sure to ask for room towards the sea), service from the staff is excellent. The location is perfect, central and calm at the same time.

Breakfast is good, but I have the impression that it was better two years back. And also, two years back, the parking was free. Now the hotel has no own parking area, and that is why I do not grant them with 5/5 rating this time.

I am confident that I will come back the next time I visit Ålesund.

We stayed in this hotel for 1 night with 2 adults and 3 children. We were supplied with 2 extra foldaway beds for our young children at no extra cost which was fabulous. They could not manage to find a cot for our baby which was a bit disappointing but we managed. The breakfast buffet was generous and as you would expect in this type of hotel. There is a lovely view out to sea and you can see the Hurtigruten coming in. We stayed at this hotel as we were sailing on the Hurtigruten back to Bergen and were able to wait in their lobby until the ship arrived. It is a very short walk to the Hurtigruten dock. If you are going out for a meal in town we definitely recommend Hummer & Kanari at 19 Kongensgata, not far from the hotel.

Room Tip: Stay ehre to be close to Hurtigruten terminal

The waves of the North sea touch this hotel. Breakfast area provides an unrestricted view of the North sea as do the room windows. If the windows are left open, one can hear the gentle motion of the North sea. It is also possible to have breakfast or just a quiet hour by the sea, if it is not raining or too windy. The staff are young, warmly helpful and efficient. The small size of the hotel makes it easy to manage and is its next advantage after its location next to the piers of Ålesund. The rooms are like any other Radisson SAS hotel, no surprises there. It has one of the best possible locations in Ålesund.
