we made a reservation months ago but on arrival there was not available a room with a queen bet as arranged.we agreed to take a inferior room with a reduction in price but the management insisted on giving us a business suite without a additional charge.bravo!
the staff were pleasant and responsive.

Stayed a couple of nights in September 2012.

As always in Norway, you cant go wrong when staying at a Radisson Hotel. This hotel was not an exception. Friendly staff, a nice location and a tasty breakfast. The room was clean and reasonable large. It was a peaceful and comfortable stay. The bus to the airport stops around 5 minutes by foot from the hotel.

The hotel is located next to the Hurtigruten ferry, We wait for it in the hotel lounge, and we walk to the landing site when we see the ship through the hotel restaurant. You will find it important when there is no real entrance to the ferry, no reception counter and no clear road sign to show you to the ship, plus strong wind and rain outside.

The reception staff are friendly. Rooms are OK.

The breakfast seems to be the same as that in the Bergen Radisson. I don' t know whether it is their practice to control food price and quality.

Stayed here as part of a four center holiday. Had a business room that had huge windows giving a great view of the islands, Alesund and the ferries, all perfect for my husband. If you don't sleep well perhaps this is not the room for you:347. For us this was no problem and we really enjoyed the experience. Breakfast was good, staff very helpful and friendly especially on reception. A good first experience in Norway thank you.

The hotel is not exactly poor, but when the name is Radisson, you'd expect more.

Restaurant is located next to reception. That's okay for breakfast, but sitting there for a nice evening meal was out of the question. Breakfast was also disappointing, there were no bacon, and the boiled eggs were cold.

The hotel does not have parking available. If you're leaving early in the morning, you can put the car in the street if available. If not, the only option is privat parking nearby, of which the credit card reader did not work (so cash only). Asking in the reception, they told me that there's a cash machine way up the street. Going there, then going back to the parking, only to realise only coins are accepted..!!

The least they could do, is to have some sort of arrangement at the counter, f.ex. they could supply coins and then charge to the room. This is not the kind of hassle I will put up with at an expensive hotel.

They will not see me again.

And things had started to look up, too.

But, lets get the good things about the Radisson Blu Alesund into this review.

If you've come in on the ferry from, say, Bergen, as we did, then the hotel couldn't be simpler to find. It is right there, a couple of hundred yards away, on the watefront, and does give excellent views of the fjord and its comings and goings. It also gives excellent views of the Hurtigruten operation, which may not be everybody's taste, but I have to say that opening the curtains one morning and finding a great big ship parked outside our room was a hoot. (Yes, I do know that 'parked' isn't the correct term)

Given that Alesund isn't the biggest place in the world, the hotel, though not centrally located, isn't far from the town centre and its rather wonderful art nouveau architechture, and is an easy walk in.

The hotel is modern, and our room, once more in Business Club, was large and comfortable.
However, it had its quirks, particularly the bed, which didn't fit the bed surround. It seems that the surround had been designed for a bigger bed. This meant that the bedside lighting was at arm's length, which made reading uncomfortable. A minor irritation, admittedly.

We dined in the restaurant, and, as usual, the food and preparation was of a very good standard.

What let the place down for us was the state of the furniture, particularly in the breakfast lounge. The chairs looked as though every pair of greasy hands in Alesund had been wiped on them at some stage. If you add in the fact that a good deal of various breakfasts seemed to have ended up on the chairs, rather than in people's stomachs, you may be able to see why our choice of where we wanted to sit wasn't determined by whether there was a view out of the window onto the fjord, but by the cleanliness of the seating

In fairness, the waiter did help in tracking down some more pristine furniture, but perhaps hotel chains should never upholster furniture with cloth.

Ho hum

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to write your review of our Hotel in Ålesund, and thank you for the good things you say about the view etc., and also thank you for pointing out to us the not so good things as well. We have been planning for a few months to change the chairs in the breakfast room, we have been waiting for the right time since the hotel has been so full. After your review, I realized that we cannot wait any longer, so yesterday we shipped out the first load of chairs to be replaced. In a few weeks we will have all new chairs in a wonderful blue colour. I hope that you will stay with us again next time in Ålesund, and again thank you for the review. I hope you have a wonderful summer ,
Regards Britt

Inside, nice hotel, however bar & restaurant closed Sundays. Room was on the 3rd floor, overlooking the docks and partly the islands. The room was of a good size, and was clean. Coffee maker in the room. The Docks next door is where cargo ships &costal ferries dock, unload/load including during the night. This kept us awake for several hours ending at about 3.30am when everything went quiet. Yes the hotel is reasonably close to the town centre, their web site states "boasts an enviable location in the heart of the city". I cannot disagree more! Restaurants in the town are only 5-10 mins walk. The hotel is really smart inside, but it's location could have been better. No car parking at the hotel, but there is some street parking. When I complained in the morning about the noise, the receptionist said, they have to work, my reply, yes they do, but you should advertise your hotel honestly (no mention of adjacent commercial docks), the receptionist replied, the description on the web site is 'bad'. I would not recommend it purely based on the immediate area and the noise issue. They did give us the upgrade free after I insisted I was not going to pay it!

Room Tip: If you stay there, ask for a room as far from the docks as possible
