Very nice Hotel, great breakfast, helpful staff. Nice location to get outside of the city and close to the highway. here are a few restaurants close by and as a bonus you get 20% off for staying at the best western. The area is very nice if you like to go for a walk at night and in Norway it is light out all night in the summer.

I often stay in this hotel when in Alesund. It is not really located in the center of the city, but it is very close to the large shopping center Moa, where the nearby "TraffikTerminal" (bus station) offers a number of buses to all over the area.

The most important to note in this hotel is the improvement in quality overtime. The first large improvement is the dining area and the offer of meals for breakfast. Everything in this context is improving every time I stay.

During evenings there is a supper offered to guests, included in room price. It is often a simple soup, but it comes as very refreshing and easy meal after a hard day, especially if it rained or during long Alesund winter days.

Secondly, the rooms area gets improved too. The latest visible change is the brand new elevator, which replaced a spooky old one. It gives confidence staying here, when knowing that the hotel is investing in comfort.

Finally, the most important, is the quality of rooms. They are very silent and always clean. During the last trip I had a "do not disturb" sign on my door during one day, but it was not really needed- I simply did not hear or notice any noise or activity that could wake me up. The rooms do not look brand new and with the latest contemporary design, but are surely clean and silent. What more one needs after a hard working day.

I recommend the hotel even for those willing to see the center. You can save some money by booking this hotel, but always take a bus to the center and spend 20 minutes in enjoying the view en route to the center of the city.

Best Western looked different in the pictures. But it was quite spacious. One of the most spacious hotels we stayed in Norway. Breakfasts were the usual spread with sufficient variety. Free dinner was served every night. Here you see a similar spread from the morning but dinner items were also there. Upon departure we had to take an early morning flight. Shuttle bus service was being arranged at a price and they also arranged for an early breakfast. There were supermarkets close by which helped us pick stuffs before we left the country. Public transportations are available nearby if you don't have a rental car. And yes you get to make your own pancakes in the evenings which was the exciting bit. Friendly and helpful staff, willing to help you get around with local information and suggestions. Overall a very pleasant and happy experience.

There is something about Spjelkavik. It is a bit run down, and this hotel kind of fits in. It also shares it's entrance with a bowling alley, which adds to the impression. So, even though the room is OK (no more), the lobby area is OK (despite tacky christmas lights in October, when I was there), and the outside area is beyond the hotel's control, it doesn't really give you a happy feel to your stay. Despite that this hotel really could have, and maybe should have, in this little town.
Plus for free self made fresh waffles in the lobby area.
If you think this is Ålesund downtown, then you're wrong. Ålesund is in no way walking distance from here. Unless you'd like to spend a lot of your time walking, of course.

Room tip: Entrance (incl. entrance to bowling alley) on west side, lght traffic road (through town centre, Spjelkavik that is) on the east side.
